Default Deliberately stalling the application

Hey, have lurked here for a while and wanted to ask a question if anyone can help.

We filed the I130 (spousal) and have today reached the NVC stage.

Is it possible to stall the application at any particular stage, to be resumed if/when we decide to relocate? We may remain in London after all. I don't want to obtain the visa and waste it through not using it. If the application can be placed on ice for a while, even for a number of years, that would help. Otherwise should we reapply from scratch in future, it's another $420 and another long wait...

Many thanks in advance, BE.

Someone I'm sure, will come along with in depth detail but I'm nearly certain, you can't put your application on hold "for a number of years".

I thought so. For as long as possible would be helpful at least.

Yes. While I don't personally recommend it, you can stall up to 1 year at every stage of the process by not immediately responding to any USCIS request. The issue, of course, is that you'll never know if some eager beaver chucks your case file into the abandoned pile even though it's not yet been a year!

With respect, you can't have it both ways.

Ian

Thanks Ian! That's probably the way to go. If we have to re-file later then so be it.
