DCF (London) - waiting for interview - how long?

DCF (London) - waiting for interview - how long?
I'm going through the IR-1 process and sent off my checklist on 24th June (six weeks today), so how much longer should I give it before I contact the embassy? I phoned them last week and a gruff operator just said 'allow four to six weeks' - that was it. Any tips on hustling an earlier appt if I eventually call to clarify / confirm? It could be another month or more until I get to be seen, right? Thought it would be done and dusted by the end of July! How naive...

I got my interview date 2 weeks after posting in the statement of readiness - call them.
