Hello,
I have been reading and searching the forums for quite some time. My fiance "nataliemace" has also been posting recently. We have a lawyer currently doing the paperwork for our DCF. We have also done alot of reading on this board and the other Visa FAQ sites. But, we still have some un-answered questions that we were hoping others who have done a DCF could help out with... So here it goes. Please note we will be filing for DCF in South Africa.
When filing your I-130 at the embassy what supporting documents do you need to get the initial filing and your joint interview out of the way? So far we know of the long form Birth certifactes and long form marriage certificate.
What other Immigration forms need to be submitted at this time? Any supporting personal documents that are required too?
Or what may be the quickest answer is what documents does the US citizen need to bring with them to make sure their bases are covered?
Thanks ahead of time!

What joint interview? Only the foreign spouse is interviewed in a Consular adjudication.
She will need a medical, police clearance if applicable for her country and for any countries she lived in after the age of 16. www.visajourney.com has a comprehensive instruction sheet for DFC done up by our moderator meauxna.

your questions are very Consulate-specific. Perhaps ask your attorney to reach their Immigrant Visa Unit for advance instruction. You may also find information on the Consulate's webspace, under Immigrant Visas.
Your initial filing may come in two parts, or one. Rete's comment missed out the I-130 'interview', which does usually require both parties to be present. Then again, some posts, like London, require that you file the I-130 by post to the USCIS Field Office. I notice that Pretoria does not have much to say about IVs, other than petitions may only be filed on Wednesdays, so that indicates an in-person filing.
You may be asked to file the visa application and package at the same time. Again, use the email for the Consulate, or have your lawyer contact them for pre-filing info.
