Default cr1 visa recieved! should we delay entry.....?

hi all

my husband recieved his cr1 visa last friday after about 4 months of AP
his visa is valid until october. should we delay entry to the states until after our 2nd wedding anniversary so he can recieve a 10 year green card instead od a 2 year one? what are the pros/cons of doing so? would you do it?

thanks for your help!
best

Depends on many things.. the first one being... when is your 2nd wedding anniversary?

I guess the next is: How desperate are you both for him to get here?

Morbid comment: If the AmCit dies before the second anniversary, there may be problems. The unfortunate saga of Carla Freeman brings this to mind.

So you'd file that under 'cons' then.

I just made a lunch date with Dad who is 88 years old. We often talk about his mortality. Mom died at 68 and my older brother died of a stroke at 57. It is tough at times facing mortality.

Then the choice is entirely yours. Guess it depends how anxious you are to start living in the USA.

how much does it cost to adjust status from a 2 year to 10 year green card? do we have to go through another round of name checks/AP?

It's not an adjustment of status, it's a removal of conditions. The required form is I-751, you can read about it here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/usc...0045f3d6a1RCRD

Currently it's $545, but it could go up in 2 years by the time you'd need to do it.

There are biometrics involved with the I-751, as there are with every stage of immigration, but no AP (Admin Processing) involved.
