People are telling me to do CP since I have a high case number (40K EU). However, my attorney says adjustment of status is just as fast (slow) and is recommending that over CP. Any second opinions?

Where are you located? In a few BCIS offices, AOS can indeed be very fast,
but generally, I would trust CP more.

My friend and I are from the same region and we had about the same
number (mine was actually slightly lower).
She went through CP and already has her GC (for over 4 months).
I went through AOS and still do not have the GC (even though I
had an interview more than 2 months ago).

For CP, you indeed have to go to your country of citizenship (not
necessarily native country). Your wife should go to the same consulate,
even if she is a citizen of a different country.
