Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help with a couple of questions I have. I would like to relocate to USA. I am 24 and I think I need to really look at this now while I have nothing to tie me down i.e kids etc
I have two possible options.
I work for a freight forwarding company and have asked about the possibility of transferring to Texas. I would like to know if the company would still have to pay to sponsor me if it is an internal transfer? How long can this take?
Or
I have family living in Houston. They have lived there for 8 years and are applying for their green card this year If I got a bar job or something can they sponsor me if they havn't got their green card yet? If so, would they or I have to pay anything for the sponsorship?
Please help, I have no clue about these things?
Thanks,
Amanda

Do you mean get a bar job in the USA? There is no visa available for that type of job, and it's illegal to work in the USA as a visitor.
Someone ultimately has to pay for immigration, yes....either your company, your family, or you.
Best Wishes,
Rene

OK Thanks,
It is my aunt and uncle that live in Texas, and my job is ocean imports currently although I have experience in air, sea and road.
What do the wannabes that want to be big in hollywood do then? Surely, they would have to get in on a visa and most of them just waitress or something? I just want to know all of my options so that I can make an informed decision thats all.
Thanks for all of your help

The following is the way Schwarzenegger did it. However, enforcement has tightened up since then.

As for the actors/waitresses in Hollywood - they're usually US citizens! Alternatively, if they are from the UK then they will be there on a specialist entertainment visa but would need to have done similar work and be of a certain level in the UK to get it (think Cat Deeley, etc). I couldn't suddenly think 'oooh I'll be an actress' and just go over there, there's no visa that allows for that. (unless you go on the VWP which gives you 90 days but you can't work on it).
You say you want to know 'all of your options' - they were all given to you in the link earlier. That's it! No more choices I'm afraid, if you don't fit into one of those categories then it just won't happen. The US is notoriously difficult to get in to.
But I wish you the best of luck, and hope you manage it.

Read the link to Pulaski's Ways. Decide which visa you may be eligible for. Then come back and ask any questions you may have.
(HINT: from what you've told us so far, you should be considering countries other than the US, unless you can persuade your current employer to transfer you.)

Well, I for one am not going to land on you with both feet for not doing more homework, but I would encourage you do to so. There is quite a lot of information out there, and much of the information here in British Expats is quite good also, so I think you have adequate resources available to you to narrow your question. A broad question is very awkward to address.
About the job with the freight company: if you occupy a management-level or executive-level position with the company, and if you have worked with the company for at least one year out of the last three, and if the company desires to transfer you to a properly-qualified subsidiary operation in the USA to fulfill a management-level or executive-level job, then yes, it appears you have the beginnings of an L-1 (intra-company transferee) visa application. The L-1 under some circumstances can turn into a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) card.
If the relatives to whom you refer are an aunt, uncle, and cousins, then no, they cannot petition you. One possible exception: if you married one of your cousins.
It would have to be a bona fide marriage, but as long as you were married in a jurisdiction that permits first cousins to marry, it would be recognized here for immigration purposes. I have handled a number of first cousin cases, and they are no more problematic than other marriage-based case. Hey, I understand that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were quite happy together!
Best of luck.
