Default Conditions removed in less than 2 years

The place - Dallas, Texas
The celebration - removal of conditions even before the two years are up

I know Rete will tell me I'm jammy again, but here goes... A timeline update.

I was granted permanent resident status (adjustment of status from fiance visa - K1 with two K2 children) on May 19 2003.

In February this year we applied for removal of conditions. Last Friday we got the letters saying conditions had been removed as of May 9.

I thought I would have to wait at least a year for the paperwork to go through and was resigned to attempting to apply for citizenship while still waiting for the removal of conditions. Instead, it all went through in record time. No interview necessary. The letter tells me to click on their web page to get an automatic appointment generated so we can take in our passports and updated photos so the new green (not) cards can be made. They say to expect the new cards within six months, but the speed they're going at I may have them a lot sooner. Will keep you posted.

In other news, I got a great promotion at work too. We're now looking at home-buying

Regards

Hey Scarlett:

Long time, no hear. I just had that happen with a client recently. 32 days on an I-751 at CSC portal to portal. She was paranoid because her husband refused to do joint tax returns and "everybody" says that is a problem. Of course, they PROPERLY completed the "married, filing separately" returns and we had both sets -- that actually helped the case IMHO.

Good luck. How are home prices in your neighborhood? I feel like we are on the crest of bubble here in CA -- however, I bought my current home the very month the market bottomed the last time around -- so if my home loses half its value, I will still have doubled the value. BTW, no good planning, just dumb-ass luck.

How lovely to hear all these familiar voices...

My next part of the journey will be to apply for citizenship around Feb next year. After I get it, we're planning to apply to bring my mum over. It's time she retired and got some sunshine. While we're house-hunting we're bearing in mind we'll need space for one extra somewhere down the line. Any ideas on timelines for that one? And what about visa waiver travel for her in the meantime? We'd like her to be able to come stay while her application is being considered, but don't want to jeopardize anything. This year is fine because we can't apply yet - but in another year... Thoughts anyone? Should the grandkids go see her in England while she's processing?

So good to see you guys

Regards

I'm not surprised to hear that you will be petitioning for your mother's US permanent residency when you are a USC. I was, in fact, going to write that in my congratulatory reply but didn't. Have you thought long and hard on the ramifications of such a move for her at her senior age? As I'm sure you have discovered with your children medical care in the States is very very expensive and you can about double that for seniors. My meds' co-pay alone on a monthly basis is $67. I had a nuclear cardiogram recently and the cost was $2300.00. And that was just to tell me I didn't have a heart problem. I have to go for monthly blood work for diabetes another cost. Luckily for me and for now, I have great hospitalization but that will end within the next 2 to 5 years and then I will be the proverbial creek and will have to think about doing with meds to control my diabetes for lack of funds because I'll be too young for medicare and my husband will have to retire due to age and he is the party through whom we have hospitalization.

Please think long and hard on it for your mom's sake.

Yep, Rete, we've thought long and hard. The medical thing is a tough one, and there's no glossing over it, but here's where we're coming from:

My mum has worked like a dog all her life for her family. It's her time now. Her granddaughters love her. She loves her granddaughters. Garth and I both want her here, and we're willing to face the financial consequences.

All of that may sound flippant, but it's not. What can I tell you? She's my mom.

Scarlett:

Push comes to shove on chronic medical care, some people have returned to the UK for their health care.
