22 May 2015: Wedding!
15 June 2015: Sent package (I130,I485,I693,I864,I765,I131, G325a,G1145 & associated documents) to Chicago lockbox via USPS Priority Express
16 June 2015: Tracking shows package delivered
22 June 2015 (day 6): 4 emails and 4 text messages saying case accepted & receipt numbers for I485, I130, I131, I1765
23 June 2015 (day 7): Checks/ACH payment cleared
27 June 2015 (day 11): Received 4 NOAs in mail
3 July 2015 (day 17): Biometrics Appointment Notice for 7/16/15
16 July 2015 (day 30): Biometrics appointment in Oklahoma City
15 September 2015 (day 91): online case update (and email) stating I765 and I131 have been approved and card is being produced
18 September 2015 (day 94): online case update (and email) stating EAD/AP card has been mailed. I765/I131 NOA received in mail
22 September 2015 (day 98): EAD/AP card received
13 January 2016 (day 211): online case update to "testing and interview" (and email) stating interview date for I-485 is February 18 2016.
18 February 2016 (day 248): Interviewer had no problem with our marriage (gave some additional evidence including pictures and this years joint tax return) but was concerned with my previous J1 visa. He was not convinced that I was not subject to the 2-year residency requirement (I wasn't). He said he would "look into it", and I would either get an RFE or the greencard would be approved. Online status hasn't changed from interview & testing and nothing received in mail so far. Have written to State Department for official advisory opinion concerning the J1 visa.
4 April 2016 (day 293): Online case update (and email) stating I130 has been approved. No update on I485.
6 April 2016 (day 295): Received a letter from Oklahoma City USCIS office stating that I have 12 weeks to demonstrate that I was not subject to the J1 home residency requirement, I was subject but completed the requirement, or I have a waiver. Hopefully I receive word regarding the advisory opinion from the DoS soon (and it correctly states I was not subject to the requirement)!

21 May 2016 (day 340): Received the approval notice for the I-485 through the mail. No change to the online status so it was quite a surprise (it was dated May 18). Was a nice wedding anniversary gift. Hopefully the card will show up soon.

Just shows that even a straight forward case can take much longer than you may expect. Hope this is useful for someone.

Wow, that would have made my heart stop...

I applied in October 2014 for AOS and had my GC in hand in May 2015.

Congrats! I keep my fingers crossed that your card arrives soon! (mine took around 10 days from receiving notice to arrival of card)

I'm in a similar position to ellie_gbr.

Here on a H1b - married in September 2015 and sent off the paperwork for AOS in October 2015. Had my interview at the NYC Field Office early April 2016. Now waiting for a final decision.

Issue is that we have a family wedding in Australia in August and I would really like to have the green card by then (not sure I want to go just with my EAD/AP, and my H1b expires June 30 so can't enter back on that). There are no INFOPASS appointments available and I called the NCSC last week but they just gave me a generic 'it's being processed' reply.

Wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how I might be able to speed the process up?

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

If your H-1B is expired and you don't yet have a green card in hand, then it seems to me that you don't really have much of an option but to travel with your A/P card.

You can't.

Congratulations!

I'll keep this thread going as I'm just starting my journey. I'm here in the US as a J-1 Research Scholar (no 2-year home residency requirement). More to follow!

Adding my experience here. As background, UK citizen, in New York on H1b visa since July 2013. Married in September 2015.

2 October 2015: Sent package to Chicago lockbox via USPS Priority Express
9 October 2015 (day 7): 4 e-mails/text messages saying case accepted with receipt numbers for I485, I130, I131, I1765
5 November 2015 (day 34): Biometrics appointment in New York City
15 December 2015 (day 74): online case update stating I765 and I131 approved and card being produced
23 December 2015 (day 82): online case update stating EAD/AP card has been mailed
29 December 2015 (day 88): EAD/AP card received
3 March 2016 (day 153): online case update to ‘testing and interview’ stating interview date for I-485 is 5 April 2016
5 April 2016 (day 186): Interview at Federal Plaza, New York City. The officer who had been assigned our case was out that day so after some confusion we were assigned a different officer which meant they hadn’t reviewed our case. Standard questions and took copies of lease, bank statements and tax return, but wasn’t interested in our wedding photos. Told us that needed to go through our file in detail but that shouldn’t take too long to reach a decision.
18 August 2016 (day 321): submitted ‘case outside outside of normal processing time’ inquiry via the USCIS website
19 August 2016 (day 322): Online case update stating I130 and I485 approved and card being produced
25 August 2016 (day 328): Green Card and I485 approval notice arrived

05/06/2016: Married!
07/08/2016: AOS package taken to FedEx for 2 day delivery to the Chicago lockbox
07/12/2016: Tracking shows FedEx has delivered package
07/17/2016: 4 e-mails and 4 texts received about acceptance of I-485, I-130, I-131, I-765 applications
07/20/2016: Checks/ACH payment cleared and 4 NOAS arrive in mail
07/31/2016: Biometrics appointment letter received in mail
08/11/2016: Biometrics appointment in AZ
08/18/2016: Online update - RfE initial evidence I-485
08/24/2016: RfE initial evidence hard copy received in mail (forgot to fill in one box on the I-864. Argh!)
08/29/2016: RfE response delivered to the NBC
09/06/2016: Online update - RfE received, case resumes
09/14/2016: Online update - scheduled for interview! October 19!

No news on EAD/AP. Now that the interview is scheduled might I still get my EAD before then or will they not bother?
