Just shows that even a straight forward case can take much longer than you may expect. Hope this is useful for someone.

Wow, that would have made my heart stop...
I applied in October 2014 for AOS and had my GC in hand in May 2015.
Congrats! I keep my fingers crossed that your card arrives soon! (mine took around 10 days from receiving notice to arrival of card)

I'm in a similar position to ellie_gbr.
Here on a H1b - married in September 2015 and sent off the paperwork for AOS in October 2015. Had my interview at the NYC Field Office early April 2016. Now waiting for a final decision.
Issue is that we have a family wedding in Australia in August and I would really like to have the green card by then (not sure I want to go just with my EAD/AP, and my H1b expires June 30 so can't enter back on that). There are no INFOPASS appointments available and I called the NCSC last week but they just gave me a generic 'it's being processed' reply.
Wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how I might be able to speed the process up?
Thanks in advance
Jonathan

If your H-1B is expired and you don't yet have a green card in hand, then it seems to me that you don't really have much of an option but to travel with your A/P card.
You can't.

Re: Concurrent I-130/I-485 Filing in US: Timelines
Adding my experience here. As background, UK citizen, in New York on H1b visa since July 2013. Married in September 2015.
2 October 2015: Sent package to Chicago lockbox via USPS Priority Express
9 October 2015 (day 7): 4 e-mails/text messages saying case accepted with receipt numbers for I485, I130, I131, I1765
5 November 2015 (day 34): Biometrics appointment in New York City
15 December 2015 (day 74): online case update stating I765 and I131 approved and card being produced
23 December 2015 (day 82): online case update stating EAD/AP card has been mailed
29 December 2015 (day 88): EAD/AP card received
3 March 2016 (day 153): online case update to ‘testing and interview’ stating interview date for I-485 is 5 April 2016
5 April 2016 (day 186): Interview at Federal Plaza, New York City. The officer who had been assigned our case was out that day so after some confusion we were assigned a different officer which meant they hadn’t reviewed our case. Standard questions and took copies of lease, bank statements and tax return, but wasn’t interested in our wedding photos. Told us that needed to go through our file in detail but that shouldn’t take too long to reach a decision.
18 August 2016 (day 321): submitted ‘case outside outside of normal processing time’ inquiry via the USCIS website
19 August 2016 (day 322): Online case update stating I130 and I485 approved and card being produced
25 August 2016 (day 328): Green Card and I485 approval notice arrived
