Default Colombia

I notice that recently there a few posts re: Colombian fiances. Is
there a "support group" for US citizens with Colombian fiances? Are
there helpful web sites (other than US Embassy in Bogota)? Is DCF
available in Bogota? (I suspect not.)
Filed I-129 NSC Sept. 2002
1st NOA Oct. 7, 2002.
No further info. from BCIS

Hi Saritacol.
I´m a colombian fiancée waiting for reply from VSC. 235 days waiting for the 2nd NOA...Oh my God! ThanK you for the patience you gave us!! My fiance is in Connecticut.
During this time, we had look for information about this process, and I can tell you that the embassy here in Bogota can approve by DCF and is rather easy than continue waiting. If we don´t receive any notification during April, my fiance will come on May and we'll do it. It takes between 7 days and three weeks to process the direct filling if you have all the documents ready, after the marriage.

Hi there,

I don't know of any support groups for Colombian fiances but if you should find
one, please let me know. I am about to send my package to the VCS and can use
all the support I can get. This process is very draining. My fiance is from
Cali. Best of luck to you.

Yes DCF is available at the US Embassy in Bogota. It is the only way
to go. It is very easy to do. Currently the time is three weeks
between filing and your wife receiving her visa. To be honest I would
totally avoid the use of an attorney. This is an extremely easy
process.

hi - glad to hear of your dcf success. i noticed that you filed while still
having your I-129f petition in progress. so, this obviously was not a problem?
did you get married in columbia or united states?
i ask because my french fiance and i are still waiting to hear from NSC. on
day 228!!!!
found out that we could do a DCF at the paris consulate but i want to make sure
that there is no problem given our i-129f is still pending at nsc. also would
be much easier to marry in US than in france. can my fiance come here to marry
then go back to france and file?
i've been trying desperately to find some answers and reassurances but so far
nothing. thank you very much for your help.

Mv, I know I'm butting in, apologies. Check out deusa's recent posts, she did a DCF in the middle of her AOS. If you've been in touch with the Paris consulate, ask them, but I'd try to marry in the US and go over to France for the DCF. Much easier to marry here if the alien partner can come for a visit. Just get ALL your paperwork ready ahead of time.

thanks meauxna for "butting in". appreciate your concern. there's been much
discussion recently about DCF and one concern is whether the marriage can take
place in the US or does it have to occur in the fiance's foreign country.

also, does the foreign country only allow DCF if the USC is a resident of that
country or not.
when i was in paris last week i was told at the consulate that i do not have to
be a resident of france in order to DCF.
today i called the consulate, am back in the USA, and the person with whom i
spoke said I DID have to be a resident of France inorder to DCF.
another issue, since i've already sent in my i-129f petition, way back last
sept.13, 2002, can i change courses in midstream. the paris consulate people
said i could but as thing seem to be going these days i don't know who to
believe.
thanks again for your advice. anyone else out there who knows???

The couple can be legally married in any country and then DCF in any other country if the Consul will serve them there (general rule. ie, there's no limitation on it being the alien's country).

also, does the foreign country only allow DCF if the USC is a resident of that

That depends entirely on the country; it is different everywhere. This service is a courtesy that the Consul *can* offer.

when i was in paris last week i was told at the consulate that i do not have to
be a resident of france in order to DCF.
today i called the consulate, am back in the USA, and the person with whom i

I would keep trying on this one. Remember to not use the term DCF, but rather, ask if you, a USC, may file a petition I-130 on behalf of your French Citizen spouse. Ask them specifically what you will need to submit *with* this petition. For example, I was under the impression that I had to have residency in Greece to do my DCF. In truth, my residency card was never asked for.

another issue, since i've already sent in my i-129f petition, way back last
sept.13, 2002, can i change courses in midstream. the paris consulate people
said i could but as thing seem to be going these days i don't know who to

I believe you may change course with no negative effects. <shrug> Things (not you, things!) change and that's OK.

I would most def. get back on the phone and ask to speak with the Consul (maybe look up his/her name beforehand) or even better at this stage, speak to the head of the Immigrant Visa Unit. They are the ones that you'll ultimately have to work with, and they should be senior enough to make the judgement call on whether or not they'll let you file the I-130 there. I'd give them the story about being soooo excited to be married, you couldn't wait, you're temporarily staying in France, you've got such and so job opportunity coming up in the US, etc etc. Appeal to their higher motives.

thanks again for your advice. anyone else out there who knows???

Default Colombia and direct consular filing

As of June 1, non residents can no longer go the direct consular filing route in Colombia. I missed it by 11 days. When I tried to call the consulate from Medellin I got the never ending automated phone loop. A resident may still go dcf but you need to be there 3 or 4 months. Any help with a contact number that is actually answered at the Bogota consulate would be greatly appreaciated.

Hello Mvstolar,
I am in the similar situation as you. My fiancee and I are planning to get married in France and do the DCF. But I found out from some website that France does not allow DCF for non-resident US citizen.
We also thought about filing I-129F (K1 visa) because getting married in France is a pain in the ass !! but I heard many stories that most K1 visas are rejected. Especially that I live in california, the process takes longer (compare to Vermont).

Did you ever try DCF in paris anyway? How is your fiancee status now?Any respond from INS? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

best of luck and thanks.
