Default Chicago AP experience

I applied for AP at Chicago on Nov. 6, 2002 and hadn't heard anything for 2
months. I called the Chicago INS office & spoke with someone who sounded
exhausted & full of excuses. She said I should send in a letter & will get
a response in a few weeks. I told her I waited 2 months & my trip is in 3
weeks. She said sorry, I said maybe my congressman could find out
something, she said let me get your name, A# & other info & she would submit
a request now. Ok, some action. I mailed in my own emergency request that
day and also decided to contact my congressman. The very helpful assistant
at my congressman's office took my request and contacted her liaison at the
Chicago INS. I heard back the next day! My AP was approved on Dec. 9. I
don't know if they ever sent a letter because I never got one. The contact
at Chicago said I could pick up the AP document at any time. I will go Fri.
morning to get it. I hope there are no more complications.

I picked up the I-512 (AP docs) yesterday. I went on a Tues. at about
9:00am. There was no line to get in. We were told to go to the second
floor. After waiting in a short line on the second floor I was given an
inquiry form to fill out which asked basic id info. then told to go to the
3rd floor. Keep in mind I never got my letter from the INS to pick up the
AP I had a letter from my Congressman. The woman at the 2nd floor desk said
next time just come into the office in person & they could take care of
everything right there, no need to contact the congressman. That is fine as
long as it is approved, but if it wasn't approved it would be a waste of
time & money.
At the 3rd floor there was only one person ahead of me. two others came in
after. All were there to pick up AP. The clerk was boisterous and
demanding but we were all taken care of with about 15 minutes with a little
speech about how to use the form at the end.

Hi there,

I'll be going through Chicago for AP too, after my AOS application. I'm applying as a K1 Visa holder, is that what your circumstances were too? I'd be interested to know.

Peace,

D.
