My fiance has her K1 interview this month. I live in NY. If I were to move
to another state with my fiance once she arrives, how would that affect her
filing for AOS, EAD, SS etc?
Would we just go to the nearest INS office and inform them of the change of
address?
thanks and Happy New Year

I'm glad you asked this question... I am wondering the same thing. Greg and I want to love out west once he is here and we have the money... probably will be before he gets his AOS interview... anyone want to enlighten us with their knowledge?

well, looks like we are on our own as nobody seems to have any ideas or
input - or do they?

It is better to move before filing for AOS than file for AOS and then move out of state. The brown envelope will be called for by the local INS office you file with so that is not an issue.
The problem with filing and then moving out of state is that getting the local INS office to transfer the file is sometimes tanamount to pulling a wisdom tooth with the benefit of proper instruments and novacaine. Of course, it can be done, but it is a pain. You must send letters to the old INS Office requesting the transfer. Then go to the new local INS office and ask them to request the transfer and then you pray that someone in one those offices is efficient and job conscious and does their job.

great information, thank you. i wasn't sure if the brown envelope was sent
to the petitioner's local INS office after the visa was issued or not.

That's a good thing to know.. unfortunately, I don't think it will work for us, as we are getting married AS SOON as Greg gets here (hoping Feb!), filing for AOS right after that, then not planning to move until June, July, or August (whenever we have the money!). I'd love to move right after we are married, but neither of us have much savings (or even a car) at the moment, so don't think it would possible. I guess I'll just have to deal with the pain it is to transfer the file or hope and pray his interview comes REALLY quickly...
Waiting for the day we can actually live our lives instead of worrying about every single decision we make will delay our being free from all this!
Thanks for responding.
