Changing name after I-797 renewal

Changing name after I-797 renewal
Does anyone have any experience of changing their name (i.e. after marriage)?
Basically, I'm on an H4 visa, we are currently in the process of renewing the I-797 and will then have to leave the country in order to get the visas renewed in our passports. My passport (and hence, my visa) is currently in my maiden name and so the I-797 will also arrive in my maiden name.
What process do I have to go through to get this changed? Is it worth it or am I better off just waiting for Green Card etc (in about 4 years)? I assume I should change the name on my passport first, but then the I-797 and H4 will be in the wrong name.... does this make me illegal?! I also have a Ca drivers license in my maiden name and don't know whether this has any bearing whatsoever on anything.

US Visas is the proper name for it, just looked it up.
