Default Change of Address day after PR interview letter sent...

My wife and I had to move across the country a few weeks ago. (I'm a
citizen, she's applying for her permanent residency, we're a little
over 1.5 years into the process) We were currently waiting for her EAD
card to arrive (a renewal), and it has been nearly 90 days since
submitted and we've had the biometrics finished 2 weeks after we sent
the renewal application. So the question is will they forward the EAD
card to our new address if we've given them our new address info (both
over the phone and in the mail?)

Next, we called and mailed our address change on Monday. My mother has
been picking up our mail at our old address and today received a letter
asking for us to come in for our interview for the I-485 or whatever it
is, the permanent residency application for married couples. Problem
is, we're 2300 miles away from our old office where the form was being
processed. The letter was marked for the 14th - we made our change of
address on the 17th. This is probably the worst situation we could be
in. Are we still going to have to go to this appointment or will the
change of address kick in and cancel our appointments? Should we go to
an immigration lawyer? Any advice would be great.

I had a bad experiance with a 'change of address' actually trying to change their error, many more who have posted here have had more issues than me.

Rule 1 is never give them a chance to cock it up.

I would buy the Airline Ticket, but your call.

Hi:

An esteemed colleague of mine here in LA [he has a lower bar number than I do] has a case driving him nuts -- a family adjustment where he received an interview notice via NBC and then a later letter cancelling the interview and advising to wait for new date -- adjustment denied for failure to appear on first date.

I would listen to Boiler. And better yet, let the green card arrives
at your old address. (The interviewing officer might ask hwere you are
living. Just be wise.) It should take maximum 10 days if background
check is already finished.

Then change the address for mails.

Thing is, we've already sent the A11 or whatever the change of address
forms. Isn't that going to affect letting them think we're still at the
same address?

Well then, go to the interview and tell the officer that you submitted
AR 11. This is how my case went:

When I applied for AOS, I knew that I would be moving to a new place
and so I asked my lawyer about using the mail box address for mailing
purpose. She said that's fine as long as I also provide my residential
address. Less than 2 weeks afatre I mailed the AOS application, I moved
and sent AR 11 which asks for mailing address as well residing address.

I got all my mail at the mailbox address. When I went to the interview,
the officer asked me where I am living and I told him. So he made the
correction on the initial I-485 form but my GC arraived to the mailing
address I provided.

So at the interview, you can tell him the address you want the GC comes
to but he can do his part but that doesn't mean that the office sending
the card will have their act together. But since you already turned in
AR 11, povided th at address but go to this interview. If you miss it,
you will regret it.

Buy air ticket, go to the interview, and mention the change of address
and that you turned in AR 11.

Did you move out of state or region, though? Just curious if that makes
a big difference. Like, our air fare will be nearly $900, so its not
something we can really mess around with.

The AR-11 does not change your mailing address with USCIS regarding any outstanding petitions you have. The AR-11 is only so they know where you physically are. That information doesn't trickle down to the service centers or local offices.

You have to notify the service center or local office in writing and by phone, many times over, to get your address changed with them.

Best Wishes,
Rene

No. I moved in the same city, same zip code in fact.

You are being stubborn and so do what you want.

Okay, don't mess with 900; just mess with your GC. Your choice.

I even planned to move to another state if I get a job there with
intention to fly back for AOS interview but it didn't happeen that way.
You don't get it that what is that you are jeoparidzing and so it is
up to you. No more answer from me.

You mean mailing address?

Thanks for the info. I didn't know such a difference.

Yes, to get your mailing address changed, you need to write letters to the service center/local office and call the 800 number, both multiple times to make sure it gets in your record.

The AR-11 information doesn't do it.

Thanks, Noorah. That clarifies a lot, a lot that isn't explained
anywhere on our lovley government website. I do appreciate your help. I
just didn't want our interview or paperwork to be forfieted after we
spent the money to fly back and do the interview.

No offense, but I'm not quite sure about the attitude. I don't know
you, I don't know your qualifications and you were somewhat vague about
your situation. It does seem like a totally different situtation
because you were in the same state and office area whereas I am not. I
have been told about 4 different things (not just on this thread) about
this situation with different answers. It has nothing to do with being
"stubborn." I'm not getting multiple suggestions, multiple view points,
and $900 and taking time off work makes me want to find the best answer
for my situation.

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know I answered a few more details over on the marriage-based forum where you posted.
