Certified Copies of Marriage Certificate - Mucho Help needed!!!
Hi all,
We have managed to place ourselves in a quandry! We got married yesterday (and no
marriage wasn't the quandry! ) and were hoping to get to Philly to apply for AOS,
EAD and AP on this coming Tuesday (leaving at 4.45am to get there for
6.30am). The Justice of the peace who performed our marriage ceremony was nice enough
to come back to the house today to drop off the 'certified copies' of our marriage
certificate that we had requested. We weren't in at the time so he left them with
my brother. Unfortunately, we didn't see them when he was still around, tommorow is
Presidents Day, and we aren't sure if these are 'official certified' copies.
Basically they are black and white photocopies with his seal stamped in them though
you can't read the seal too well! Will this suffice for the INS or should we wait
until his office is open and ask them?
Mucho thanks in advance...

His seal? Is he also your county clerk? Your certified marriage certificate is the
one that you get from your county courthouse - it should have the county or state
seal on it. Unless your JP took your marriage license to the courthouse himself, to
the registrars office and paid for a certified copy for you, I would bet the copies
you have are just photocopies of your license he made before he sent the original to
the courthouse to be filed. You may want to change your plans for Tuesday. Take

Here in our town we did not have our filed at the county courthouse but at city hall and there was no charge for getting certified copies.
Our certificate has a raised seal and notations as to the filing registration, i.e. book no. #####, etc. We were sent, via mail, 3 copies without cost.

Go with what the JP gave you. They will in all likelihood accept the original certified copies and if they say you need a different one, they will also most likely allow you to bring it with your at the time of the interview. It is worth a try.
