It is in her car and pretty easy to use. It has a multitude of languages (60+) so my wife can listen to it in her home dialect which helps (When she is driving she doesn't concentrate as much on my directions so I get tired of saying 'your other left' when telling her to turn right).

Tom Toms have a lot of features you can download, but I haven't really got into all of that. Phone runs through the device as well so it doubles as a handsfree. Has all the cool coordinate details / sat numbers, etc. as well

I've got the base Magellan, which is alright, but if I had the cash, the TomTom is a lot nicer, it's quicker, easier to navigate and quicker to re-calculate, which is handy driving around here....and it has a internal battery, so can be used as a hand held to go walking around with.

Unless you do a lot of traveling is it really worth spending $350 on GPS over $10 on MAPS for everyday driving?

Yes, 100%. But didn't spend that much on my good portable one.
Got it as a Christmas present. Suppose it depends what is important/useful to you.

damn right, moving to a new state, our's was a godsend, and I got it on sale, on a refurb, about $100....worth every penny...though spending more on a better one would have been worth the money as well now *l*

places of interest, places to eat, stay etc...kind of handy when your new to an area so you can drive around randomly to learn the layout, and still be able to find your way home.
