Unfortunately this will never happen now... :-(

Here is a recent (July 2003) FBI testimony before Congress which explains
the FBI's visa name check process.

http://www.fbi.gov/congress/congress...rity071003.htm

They claim to resolve 99% of the visa name check requests within 120 days.
Anecdotally, I'm seeing about a two to three month NVC delay for China visas
under the new post-March system, though there are folks who have gone over
four or more months without a resolution. There just aren't enough data
points to really say how long the process will take for folks from the
'special' countries since the process is new. With my luck recently, I'll
probably end up being one of late ones...

I would like to see a copy of this spreadsheet that you have assembled. If
it would be helpful, I can set up a simple page where folks can update this
information themselves if you don't mind typing all that stuff in again...

Hi Jerry
What a lovely memorial website.
If you'll send me your email where I can send an attachment, I'd be happy to send you the spreadsheet, and yes, I'll retype the information into a site you create. Email me at [email protected] and I'll return the spreadsheet to you.

Jerry -

I copied and pasted chunks of the text of this into my letter to my US Senator and enclosed the full text of the report. I simply said, either what Mr. Garrity said isn't completely true or there is something wrong with my case, either way an explanation is in order. I am sitting on day 156 now since my case went to the NVC. Something has got to give. This kind of congressional testimony is invaluable because it shows that something is irregular about a case that has gone past 120 days and you have something to talk about when you ask for help that reinforces your point.

Hi Richard,

Just went back and read your old posts and saw that you had mentioned the
FBI testimony originally. :-) Good luck with your letter and keep us
posted. I had read on another web site about folks who had written to the
two California senators about still being stuck in name checks from last
year (before they changed the procedure to go to NVC right after the service
centers), but neither senator wanted to get involved. Although other folks
had reported better luck with their congressional representatives elsewhere.
Hopefully you don't live in California... :-)

Hi Pourya
Wow, 120 days! :-( Makes my 48-days today seems like nothing. As far as a case number....when I first called NVC, I gave them my CSC number as a reference, then they gave me a new case number starting with ANK (I assume for Ankara - the embassy we are using). I've been using that number at NVC. But I've heard that once it gets to the embassy, it gets even another new number.

I hope you get your case through soon! Please keep us informed.

Rene -

My K-3 petition was approved on March 11, 2003 and received by the NVC a week later so that makes 179 days today, but who's counting? I am currently faxing a copy of a letter I sent to one of the US senators from my state (after receiving a tepid response from the other one) to the FBI Records Management Division (the folks who do the name check). I am hoping to hear what the problem is from the FBI although I am not at all sure that the problem is theirs. I just want to jolt my package loose so we can move on to the next step.

I am running out of elected officials who might be sympathetic to my cause. The US representative from my district is a freshman who is part of the gang of ultra-rights headed by Tancredo who want to stop ALL immigration. I am not going to waste too much time with her.

I hope things go well for you -
