Default BTW...

For anyone returning home who wishes to open a no hassle bank account, Natwest offer a basic bank account. She called it a step account, I think. They can open it for anyone, their only restriction is if you have ever been made bankrupt. If not, they can help you out, regardless of whether you are returning from another country or your credit is poor.

Having worked for Natwest, I can confirm that as long as you have ID they will open a Step account for you. After about six months, should you wish to upgrade this account (to get debit card, o/d, etc) they will have a look at how the account has been running and upgrade it for you. Just give your local branch a call (you can still do this with Natwest!) and book to see a customer advisor, who will help you in any way they can.

God, I sound like an advert for them, don't I?
