Default British Widow with two US born children faces deportation

This woman and her husband came here legally yet she faces deportation?!?!

Unfreakingbelievable that there is so many illegals that are left to wander this
country, but if you legally come here your hounded by the INS.

Non-citizen widows of the World Trade Center tragedy

Deena Gilbey, a British widow with two American-born children, has been seeking
citizenship since 1993. With the loss of her husband on Sept. 11, citizenship has
become even more critical. Learn more about her plight and how you can help.

The article is inaccurate. She and her husband were NOT seeking citizenship but a
green card.

Plus the INS has been working with the political powers on this and if you had the
wherewithal to check you would find the results on the INS website.

Thats probably because the INS has records on legal entrances and does not on the
illegal ones.... but yes, it is a sad story. I have heard of entire mexican families
threathend of being deported to the border because the moneymaker died in the WTC....

Very unreal like, isn't it? I think they should make special exceptions for
those families.

This is what I remember as well. This whole thing went through the news shortly after
9/11, and the word at that time was that they can stay. This wasn't the only case, of
course, and they were creating a policy to handle these cases in a good way. The INS
press release on this is here:

The liberals HATE white people. They'll do everything to help and promote aliens, but
they give no shit for a white woman.

Salutations.

Originally the INS served all these people with orders to leave late last year -
there were threats made from various sources - Police and so on to intervene if the
INS tried to enforce those orders. It was then the INS realised how unpopular they
would be and decided to work out an alternative plan.

(This is how CNN told the story anyway)

The reason why INS press release was harping on "discretion" is the KINDS of foreign
survivors of relatives they had to deal with after the 9-11 incident: quite a number
of them turn out to be Muslims from arab and non-arab countries !! You cannot have
one branch of Justice hounding people in Queens on the one hand and another branch of
Justice offering them support and solace with immigration problems. Enter "INS
discretion". Perhaps the reason why the proposed legislation may not get far is the
national origins mix of these survivors.

Perhaps it's just hard to drum up a real sob story about being forcibly deported
to England.

What's sad is that this is going on while millions of people who entered the country
illegally are not being rounded up.

I guess she was more obvious since she was "documented" to begin with.

She'd been better off entering illegally. By being documented she is very easy to
track. Meanwhile, millions of people who entered illegally are not being molested.
Instead, there is talk of yet another harebrained amnesty. Go figure.

Why? They came here, broke US law and are making things harder for prospective legal
immigrants. I take it you have no idea what all those mexicans applying under 245(i)
has done to the already backed up traffic jam at the INS. That's just what we needed.
Another couple million overcrowding an already overcrowded system. Marvellous.

Yeah, instead Monica's boyfriend decided to give them amnesty.

I doubt she would indeed be deported seeing that she has 2 children (US citizens) as
dependants. But it is still unbelievable. If she were some Mexican illegal alien, the
matter would not even be discussed.

Having children which happen to be US citizens doesn't provide the parents with *any*
special rights with regards to immigration. A child has to be at least 21 to be able
to sponsor his or her parents.
