Re: Best Wishes for Norri
We got to the courthouse about 12:15 there was a bit of a queue but it move quickly.
All the oath takers (100, 30 countries) were taken in, friends and families had to wait about 30 mins. There is a cafe near the courtroom.
The oath letters were collected at the door and GCs inside.
The order of GC collection determines the order of certificate distribution so you MUST sit where you are directed.
Each seat had a package with a SS form, voter reg form, US flag, copy of the oath, pledge etc.
We had a short talk explaining what would happen, and were strangely threatened(warned? told?) that the officers would be checking that everyones lips were moving during the oath.
Then a SS guy walked us through filling in the form and stressed the importance of submitting it downstairs after the ceremony.
The judge showed up a little late, surprisingly he announced that he was a bankruptcy judge, I thought he would have his hands full right now.
They showed a video of immigrants arriving at Ellis Island, then administered the oath of allegience, and they played the Star Spangled Banner
The judge then declared us all citizens.
We then stood and recited the pledge, and they then played I'm proud to be an American accompanied by us all waving our flags.
There was a short talk from the judge on the importance and responsibilities of citizenship and we were done.
In the information pack there was a sample certificate which indicated that you had to sign your name in full as it is shown on the certificate.
I queried this with the officer and he confirmed what they want is your normal legal signature, so my certificate has first name middle - name last - name
but the signature will be first initial - squiggly last name.
So they give you a document stating one thing but actually want something different.
God Bless USCIS.

Woo hoo, congratulations, Norri!! I'm sure I"ll have a few questions for you. Thank you for the post!
Oh...just thought of one...how long did the whole thing take? From entering the building until it was all over?
Congrats again!
