On asylum right getting married soon, how do I change status?

Hi all!

I applied for a asylum in 2000 and still waiting for a interview,
soon I'll be getting married to an US citizen, what do I need to do to
change my status ?
thanx

Hi:

Please, oh please, consult with an attorney. Legally speaking, this should be no problem based upon the facts as you state them.

But your fact situation has a habit of turning into a procedural nightmare.

Also, the filing in 2000 and still waiting for interview raises alarm bells.

You should note that asylum applications are handled on a "fast track" with the idea of getting quick denials. This is what causes the problems.

See that attorney -- yesterday if you can.
