Default Application to Remove Conditional Residential Status...what now?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I just filed her application...we received a notification
from DHS that they have received her application and she's good for
another year while they review it. My question is this...the date on
her green card is still expired, and we are planning on travelling to
see her family this winter...do we have to get a new green card prior
to going? Will the old one, with the letter from DHS suffice?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Shaun,
From what I understand the expired green card and the letter are
sufficient. I intend to test it when I go back to the UK on November
2nd. I'll let you know what happens!

It should say in the letter that it (the letter) is validation of her extended green card expiration date. That's what ours says.

We haven't had the need to travel since Philip's green card expired, so I'm not sure how the letter is welcomed at customs, etc.

I'm sure that someone here has had experience and, hopefully, they will be able to put your mind at ease.

Hang in there.

Yes.... expired green card and extansion letter is sufficient... at
least it was sufficient several month ago when I traveled abroad.

The original letter plus the expired green card is good enough for the CBP. If the officer wishes, they can check the authenticity of the letter by looking in their database for your record.

If I were in your place I would get a 551 stamp on her passport. I think she can make an infopass appt to get one.

Hi Philly,

She can't get a new I-551 stamp until the lifting of conditions is approved. Right now, USCIS is reviewing the case. It's not approved yet.

Oops, sorry. My bad. Evidently you CAN get another I-551 stamp while waiting for the conditions to be lifted. Other folks use the expired GC and extension letter to travel.

Thanks,
Rene
