Hi everyone,
In 2001, I applied to immigrate to Canada in the independent category. So far, I have received only a File No., the file review is not yet done.
Recently, I secured admission for Fall 2003 in a University in New York for my MBA.
The questions I would like to ask you are:
1) While applying for a US student visa, I am quite sure I will be rejected if I tell the American visa officer that I already have a Canadian immigration case pending.
If I do not volunteer the info (that I have a Canadian immigration application pending), IS THERE ANY WAY that the American visa officer can find out by himself? meaning, are the US & Canadian computer databases linked???
2) If they are not yet linked, are there any reasons to expect them to be linked by the end of the year?
Thanks...

Generally, never volunteer information, but respond honestly if asked. The
systems aren't likely to be linked.
In any case, even if the US officer does find out about the application,
it likely won't be a problem. He'll only be interested in the intent to
immigrate to the US - and having the opportunity to go to Canada will be,
if anything evidence that you DON'T plan to stay in the US permanently.

You never know in the context of 9/11, but I would be very surprised.
