Timeline, with omissions:
30 April 2002: I-129 application started
14 June 2002: Scavenger hunt begins for stuff Montreal wants
10 August 2002: Interview in Montreal (approx. date)
15 August 2002: Entry at fragrant Niagara Falls, NY
16 August 2002: Married! In NF, NY.
9 October 2002: File AOS (AP/EAD filed ca. 2 months later)
24 April 2003: AP received; never activated due to lax security
at Port Huron -- they kept saying "Okay, move
along without even checking ID"
8 December 2003: Denial, due to missing fingerprint appointment that
we never received. GRRRR!
8 December 2003: Contacted local Representative (Burgess for us)
X February 2004: New fingerprint appointment in an old-and-busted
mall in Fort Worth
5 April 2004: AOS Interview! I-551 stamp received!
AOS interview was a breeze. Note to Dallas users who've been to the
main office: we were sent to 3110 Stemmons, a couple of exits deeper
into Dallas.
The adjudicator started with "Looks like you've been waiting a while
for this!" He swore us in, asked both of us to confirm biographical
information, and asked a bare few questions about how we went. He
was happily surprised that we'd brought a vaccination supplement
procured locally. He asked for the usual stuff -- new I-864 and
supporting stuff, evidence of financial intermingling. Of which we
had More Than Plenty. We also showed him some pictures of us
together different places.
He was chatty, and I mentioned that, having seen _Green Card_ years
ago, I was a bit surprised to find that they actually did some of
what you see there... he said that something on the order of "yeah...
like we have time to do all that to every couple" and rolled his
eyes.
Only hitch: in some earlier work, somebody had taken one of the ADIT
photos off the I-485 and used it for the AP paperwork. He had us go
get another picture real quick and come back; it took about 15
minutes. And then we left with a 551 stamp! Woo.
