AOS submission: Boston: In-person or Mail?
For folks with experience dealing with the Boston field office....
Since Boston forwards all new AOS apps to the NBC - does it make a difference whether I mail the application instead of handing it in in person.
From previous posts, it appears that to hand it in you have to get there before 6am to stand in line and all you really do is just hand in the application.
Could folks with related experience please help?
Thanks in advance

I have been there twice with people filing AOS and once the officer was very friendly and looked through the applications and said everything looked good, chit chated and put it in the envelope and we were on our way home. The second time (diferent officer) they just asked if there were seperate checks for each application and thew it in the envelope not even looking at it. Both were recently (within the past 3 months), so it's a crap shoot. But for paranoid types like myself I still would go in person, at least I know they got it.

walk it in - your receipt date will be the day you walk it in not when it arrives in NBC.....

I dropped off our application in person. They didn't check anything. They
just gave me a big brown envelope and told me to put everything in there and
hand it to the guard. I don't think you need to arrive at 6:00. I arrived
around 10 am and only waited about half an hour.
The way the office works is this. There is a counter at the entrance to the
Immigration office. Everyone has to stop there first. They ask you why you
are there and if you need some kind of processing to do or have to inquire
about something, they give you a number. Then you go inside to the waiting
room and wait for them to call your number. For dropping off the AOS
application, you don't get a number. You just hand it in at the counter.
So the only waiting you do is in the line at the door.
If you're going to drop it off in person, I recommend NOT going first thing
in the morning. Because they'll be handling all those people who were
waiting in line before the office opened. The line can be pretty long.
Better to wait until mid-morning when the line has reduced.
I would recommend dropping it off if possible. For one thing, you'll be
sure they got it. And for another, it will get to NBC faster. If you mail
it, first it has to go through the mail to get to the Boston office and THEN
they forward it to NBC. (I don't think you can mail them directly to NBC
yourself). I dropped our application off in Boston on April 12 and when we
received the NOAs the receipt date on them was April 13.

Re: AOS submission: Boston: In-person or Mail?
Thanks - so the consensus seems to be to drop if off in person just to be sure that they do get it. There is no guarantee that the application will be reviewed by anyone.
Does the Boston office give you a reciept when you drop it off or do you just have to wait for the notice from the NBC?
Thanks

Have to wait for NBC to send you the receipt. You leave Boston empty handed! (Read my newest post: Boston Saga)

Went to the Boston USCIS this morning - got there a little before 6am. There were about 10 people in line ahead of us.
Doors opened at 7am sharp. The security guards were quite rude and acted like absolute jackasses, but after going through security, we stood in line at the customer information desk.
When called, we presented our envelope and the guard at the desk took it and told me that I would get a reciept in about 3 weeks, the EAD in about 90 days and an interview date in about 4 months. Except for the reciept time, I'm not sure I really believe the other times he quoted, but am hoping for the best.
So we got in at 7am and were done by 7.10am.
Atleast I know they have the application.
