How do you know when your case has been touched by the USCIS?

You can go to www.uscis.gov and set up an account to be notified via email with updates on your case. Sometimes you will receive an email which says your case has been touched. It's not highly reliable all the time, but it's one way of keeping track of things...if you don't pin all your hopes on getting notified.
