Default AOS IN NYC: How do I follow up?

Hi.. We filed our AOS forms in January of 2002 and have not heard
anything from the INS except the little yellow receipt which we
received a year ago. I read that some people filed and had their AOS
interview within six months!... Is there a number I could call to
follow up my paperworks and find out when we will be called for the
interview?... I'm afraid they have forgotten or lost our papers
somewhere...

Please help, thanks in advance.

Hi Cassiedee,

I filed mine in Octorber 2002 and I haven't heard anything so far except for
the yellow receipt. i believe with NYC (26 federal Plaza), the wait is
slightly longer.

NYC would not interview for AOS in six months. They are currently conducting AOS interviews 21 months after filing. You have about 8 more months to go.

We filed AOS at NYC Fed Plaza also.
I wouldn't bother with chasing the app, the time to interview is between 18 to 21+ months, and will fluctuate. Federal Plaza does not have a public telephone number, and the 1-800 INS helpline will be of no assistance to you, you cannot even track your application online because it's a district office.

Just relax, you have your receipt, your checks have been cashed, and your application is slowly being processed. It's natural to worry and be nervous about it, I was a bag of nerves because I never even got a receipt back, but I got my EAD and SSN a 100 days after applying, showing that my application is gradually progressing.

90 days after you filed (roughly when your checks were cashed), you should have your EAD appointment letter, if not, you are entitled to go down to Federal Plaza and apply for it in person, though be warned, it can be a 7 hour wait to get it.
