Hi guys
Im just wondering about the logistics of getting a new passport in my married name along side the AOS process. Ive not seen this come up during my regular visits to this forum during my K1 application so my guess is it is not an issue but just wanted to check.
Since the AOS process requires a copy of my passport I wasn't sure if my passport needed to have been renewed in my married name before we make the AOS application or is my passport in my maiden name OK to submit?
If it does need to be changed first, what are peoples experiences re. time lines and validity of my K1 visa in my 'old' passport?
Thank you!

Thanks Ian
Out of interest then if I submit my current passport, would my new immigration paperwork be issued in the name on my passport or in my married name as per the marriage certificate?
I take it nothing will be placed in my passport with AOS like it was with my K1 visa so I can change the name in my passport at a later date when I no longer need to keep it close for AOS?

I was in the same position as you - my passport is still in my maiden name now! I filled the AOS forms out with my married name and got everything in my married name (EAD, AP and my green card). It was never an issue.

You don't need your passport for AOS anyway, unless you're planning to travel outside the USA while waiting for AOS to process.

Most need their passport for AOS biometric photo id. Not many, if any will have a state id or driver's license by then.
Keep the passport until it is due for renewal because they are pretty pricey from Washington DC. The security guy at Heathrow told me that a marriage certificate will get you through any problems as far as passport, greencard, tickets being in the same name. I was just chatting and asking questions since we didn't do a name change. He said "we see it all day long here....passports still in maiden names".

An important note for women (and a few guys) in this position: it's an airline rule that the ticket and passport names MUST match. Those documents, plus a marriage certificate, will bridge you to any new document in a married name, but those two must match (the airlines will NOT change this for you for no fee.. they will not usually do it at all).
The greencard can be in a different name, again, the marriage certificate makes the bridge.
Just don't get caught short with the tickets.
