This morning (Feb 18th, 2004) at 8:30 AM, my wife and I had her AOS interview. We arrived at the JFK Building in Boston at about 7:15.
We entere room E-170 and waited till about 8:25 when we were called into the back. The interviewing officer was a lady named Charlene and was very cordial.
She asked for identification from me, and my wife's passports, social security card and EAD. She only asked for the original NOA for the I-129F approval as she didn't seem to have a copy of it.
She just asked in passing what we had brought to show a life together, we produced our couple Blue Cross insurance premium, joint bank account and car insurance.
We don't have our own place so we didn't have any utility bills to provide. Charlene didn't even bother looking at the documents.
She noted that my wife had come a long way on her journey through K3 and knew how long all that takes. She asked my wife if she was working. To which my wife replied that she wasn't, but was looking.
The officer didn't ask me to produce any other documents though I had a lot of other original stuff. She asked for the original birth certificate for my wife to ensure that the copy was indeed legal, she noted that she's seen a LOT of different kinds of birth certificates for Indian citizens.
All said and done the whole process was painless and lasted only about 10 mins. While filling out various boxes, Charlene said that she wished our case was an indication of how easy the rest of her day would be. She then went ahead and said that she would approve our case, she stamped the I-551 in my wife's passport, told us that we'd have to file for the removal of conditions 90 days before the expiry of the current green card.
She also took the EAD away and attached it to my wife's folder.
By 8:45 we were walking out of the building.
The ONLY glitch was something we noticed while on the road back home. Charlege had put the expiration of the green to be 02/17/2005 instead of 02/17/2006 as it should be. I'm assuming that it's correct in the computer and this stamp will be overrided by the actual green card itself.
Regards

Congratulations on your success. Now would you do future filings of Boston District Office a huge favor and post that result on the AOS experience pages. Would be much appreciated.
FWIW, the dates are correct. The I-551 stamp is only good for one year and is only meant to tie Charlege over until the green card arrives in the mail. The green card itself will have the correct expiration date of 2006, at least it should.

Hello,
I had a dumb question, what does AOS and EAD stand for? I will no doubt have to know this for the future and just have had no experience at all with it yet due to the stage we're at with the K-3.
Thanks.

AOS = adjustment of status or affidavit of support
EAD = employment authorization document.

Congrats to you both on the newly acquired green card and I'm glad to hear that the Boston experience was pleasant and speedy.

Congratulations!
Since we'll be going through Boston too, could you share your timeline
with us, when you get a chance? We're particularily interested in the
post-wedding part, since we already have a pretty good idea of what
the delays before getting approved are.
Thanks in advance,
Jean
