Default AOS filing experience: Sacramento

Hello everybody.
First of all I wanted to thank everybody for your help.
I just filed for AOS last Thursday (Jan 21). I got there at 5am and
was 5th in the line. At 7am the guards let us in the building, we got
our tickets and had to wait. After 10 minutes my number was called (#
5). The officer was very nice and when he asked me for the documents I
gave him everything I had. I was surprised when he asked me for the
biographic info form (G-325A) for my husband who is USC (I thought I
only needed one for me) and he also asked for one ADIT photo of my
husband. But then he said that it's ok if we bring it next time. When
I asked about AP, he replied that it has to be an emergency and I
would have to show them an aeroplane ticket (??? Why would you buy a
ticket if you don't know if and when you can get AP???). I was done by
7:30am and was told to wait for the cashier to pay for AOS,
fingerprinting and EAD. The cashier window opened at 8am, my name was
called and I paid the fee. She told me to sit down (again)and wait for
my name to be called (again). One good thing is that you can get
coffee inside the building. So I waited for aprox 45 minutes and
before 9 am they called my name. I got blue sheet of paper (for EAD)
and receipt for $425. I had to go (with the blue sheet of paper) to
different room and wait for EAD. They had some computer problems and
were first taking people for naturalization (at least that's what I
understood). We were told it might take a while and it did. Finaly at
12pm my name was called, I went inside, a lady took my picture and
fingerprint, told me to sign a sheet of paper and of course go out and
wait. But to my surprise she came out in 5 minutes, gave me a card and
said you are good to go. One thing that surprised me was that nobody
wanted to tell me how long it might take to get an interview date.
Everybody told me that we will receive a letter that will explain
everything. So that was it. Nothing horrible and I was done by
12:30pm.
Here is my timeline:
filed I-129F- May 4, 2002
receipt date - May 13, 2002
Approved - July 19, 2002
Interview date (Vancouver) - Oct 8, 2002
Arrived to US - Oct 20, 2002
Wedding - Dec 23, 2002
AOS filed - Jan 21, 2003

Good luck to you all.

Perhaps they didn't want to tell you when you might have an interview date because they are tired of hearing how INS throws around dates and timelines and doesn't live up to them. As for the G-325A and ADIT for the USC, unless you filed from a marriaged not based on a K-1 visa and had to file an I-130 you don't need them. See why it is better to have them tell you a date when they can't even tell you what forms you need.

BTW January 21 is a Tuesday. Last Thursday was January 16.

Glad you got your EAD and are filed.
