AOS app sent back because lacked $50.00 fingerprint fee
My wife entered on K-3
* I-130 was approved
* Mailed off AOS/I-485 and supporting docs with 255.00 fee for AOS/I-485
* INS sent back AOS/I-485 because we did not include the $50.00 finger print fee
* My wife already had her figerprints taken by INS for her EAD!!!!
* Why do they now need 50 bucks for finger prints again?
Anyone know?

She did not have her fingerprints take for the EAD. She had a single digit print placed on the card which was ultimately used to make her EAD. That is not the same as the $50 charge for fingerprinting for the security clearance by the FBI and CIA.

Scott,
These are different fingerprints...you go to an application support center (sort of a sub INS office) and they have technicians that will scan your fingerprints into a special machine. It's pretty interesting, really...
I was pretty confused myself. I did send them $50 for fingerprints when I sent my AOS in. A few weeks later they sent it back with a note saying that fingerprints weren't needed for K-1's. A few weeks after that they sent a letter asking for $50 for fingerprinting!!! Agghh! After that they were pretty efficient and I got my GC after about 5 months.
Good luck!

OK, I also sent them check for fingerprinting along with application
for
changing of status (Atlanta office) and they sent me back the note
that K1 holders don't need to send that ... Are you sugesting
contacting sub-office about fingerprinting might speed up the process
??

Mp,
Sounds like you are going through the same situation as me...don't bother contacting the sub-office. From what I can tell, they don't really handle much of anything as far as your application is concerned. When they get a note saying fingerprint you, they fingerprint you and that seems to be about it.
More likely than not, you'll get a letter from the Atlanta office sometime soon asking for the $50 again, and then you'll be back on track.
bba1vol,
Sorry for the confusion - I got my GC immediately after approval, and that was 5 months after initially sending my AOS application in.
Best of luck to you all,
-Harry
