Default Anyone Else Experience This???

My fiancee (Indonesian citizen) and I got our NVC case number on 5/17.
On 5/19, rather than sending our case to the embassy, we were told it
was 'undergoing additional security checks.' That was almost two months
ago. By the way, there is nothing in my fiancee's past that is
questionable. She has never broken the law or anything. She was denied
entry once because she overstayed for thirteen days on one of her trips
here in 2003 because of a SARS outbreak in Asia. (She actually did get
an extension on her I-94, but for some reason Immigration does not have
a record of it. They canceled her B1/B2 visa when she was denied, but
the result was only a 222(g) which does not give her a bar of any kind
and even says she could get another visitor's visa with no prejudice as
long as she gets it from her home country.)

We have contacted both of my Senators and they've told us essentially
that there is nothing they can do - that once it enters into a security
check, they have no jurisdiction to expedite it or anything.

What's more frightening is that no one will tell us how long this is
going to take. It's completely open ended. I was just in Jakarta and my
fiancee and I went to the embassy and spoke to the Vice Consul who told
us that we have no options but to wait. And - get this - it could be
another week, another month, or a year, we'll find out when they tell
us. I cannot believe they can do this to us and we have no recourse.

Needless to say, we are freaking out.

My question is, has anyone else had this happen or heard of it
happening to someone else? I've heard of people being put on AR after
their interview and that taking some time, but never being detoured
like this before the case ever gets to the consulate.

Anyone who has any knowledge of this or any ideas as to anything we can
do, please post.

Thanks,

-Q

Hi Quantril,

In mid-2003, my Iranian fiance was also going through the NVC security check. His security check took 3 months to complete, and another month for NVC to get the results. So yes, it's happened before, to get the security check delayed at the NVC stage.

My fiance had never even been to the USA before, and his name is not all that common for a Moslem, either. I'm sure it was because of his nationality...who knows what took so long.

But finally his case reached Ankara and he's now been here in the USA for over a year...his AOS interview is tomorrow morning, so it all worked out fine. More details are in my website: Rene & Sadegh's Website

Best Wishes,
Rene

Says you!

Aha!

She actually did get an extension on her I-94, but for some reason Immigration does not have a record of it.
Yah, right!

What's more frightening is that no one will tell us how long this is going to take.
Generally, anywhere from 2 weeks to a year or more.

Needless to say, we are freaking out.
And yet you say it anyway.

My question is, has anyone else had this happen or heard of it happening to someone else?
This happens quite frequently and there really is nothing you can do about it. Such is life at times.

No problem, Quantril, I hope you hear something very soon! And yes, my husband is now a CPR, so it went very well.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Quantril,

This is not unheard of. While there may be nothing questionable in your fiancee's past, there may be something questionable in the past of someone who resembles her or is related to her in some way. Sorting her out from that someone else can take some time and effort. Even the person or person's who are doing the investigation may not be able to estimate how long it will take them.

Regards, JEff
