Hey,
Does anybody know if you can check with your local INS office if they
have sent you an appointment letter for your AOS? Due to a transfer
screw-up and to a non-processed change of address (I did everything
properly and in person (!), but the office just didn't process it), I
can not make sure that the INS will have my correct address on file
when time comes to send the appointment letter, and I am worried that
I might not get this letter and be in big trouble.
The long version of the story for those who haven't read it yet: my
file got sent by Detroit to Los Angeles instead of to San Francisco.
Of course, as soon as I discovered that my file had landed in the
wrong office, I placed another request of transfer. According to San
Francisco, LA replied to the request of transfer by "application in
process". By the way, if anybody knows the answer to that one too,
that would be great! I looks like they are actively processing
something. But, since I have nothing to be processed besides
I-485/I-130, I am afraid that what LA is processing is my AOS, and
that, since they don't have my current address, any letter they send
me will end up in Michigan, and will be let up to the Post Office (and
I am not sure that I trust the Post Office that much either!).
Therefore, I would like to know if I can go to the San Francisco
office to check if any letter has been sent. (I know that I will not
be able to have my interview in Los Angeles even if I received an
interview appointment from them, but I just don't want to abandon my
application against my will because the INS made a mistake in the
transfer of my file, has not processed my change of address, and
because of that I haven't received their *hypothetical (at that
point)* letter).
By the way, my husband has asked the staff of his congresswoman to
straighten our situation, and we hope that things will get better. For
those who read my earlier postings, I am going to wait another 2 weeks
to see if the file gets finally transferred to the San Francisco
office, and I hope to be able to renew my EAD/AP then. Otherwise, we
shall see. I will keep you posted!
Thanks,
Caroline
