Hi everyone! I entered USA 3 months ago (a little before) on visa waiver. It seems I can not change status, so I have to leave and apply for B1 tourist visa and 'hope' that I am granted this... I didn't anticipate that this would be a problem at all, but I keep hearing all these horror stories about being stranded in Canada - should I pack up everything in case this happens? I was assuming 6 months was the maximum I could apply for, but seeing as I'm planning a 'loop' it would be great to get more - but I don't want to push my luck...
Any advice? Also, if they don't grant visa, is it possible to get a transit flight from vancouver-Seattle to use my return ticket which flies out from Seattle?
Would love to hear from any Brits in WA .....

Unfortunately, I think it is very unlikely that you'll get a B-2 visa in
Vancouver. Being from a visa waiver country, it is difficult to get a
tourist visa, period - and just having completed three months there won't
help your case. Consulates tend to wonder about people who can afford more
than three months of vacations - and if you can actually afford it, then
they wonder even more, namely about whether this might turn into an
indefinite vacation (which would be illegal immigration).
The rule of thumb is that once you used up your three months, you
shouldn't try to return to the US as a tourist for about nine months
(although some people return after just a few weeks or months in Canada).
Personally, I think you should plan on flying out of Seattle without a
trip to Vancouver.
