Does it matter? I don't understand why it would. But, please, if you have any first hand experience in this matter, by all means tell us your experience. Otherwise, assumptions just tend to worry people.

As far as I know it does not matter what the age gap is so long as everyone is an adult and of legal age to marry. It is common in the Philippines for very young woman to marry older men, considerable older. Like it or not, it is not normal in the US to see such large age gaps. Although, one may view this as an moral issue, it is not a legal issue, nor one for the INS/BCIS or consulate to reject based on age alone. it may put up a red flag with an inspector along the way, thus you may want to take extra steps to verify that a bona-fide relationship exsists. Viagra receipts alone would not cut it:) Nanette is 34 and I am 31...

From what I have read, if the visa is for a benificiery in India, and if the woman is older (even by a few years) they can/do see this as strange and you may be questioned extensively on this.
I guess the important question is where is the interivew and which person is older (woman or man). good luck, Sunny |
Sunny, your back! I have been missing you, thought that you left the group now that Rohit was approved. Nice to see you back. Good news for me, Nanette and I have an interview date of July 8th:)

Otherwise, assumptions just tend to worry people. There is an 18 year difference between my K-1 husband and I (he's 25, I'm 44) and we had no problem getting the K-1 approved (quite quickly I might add from the VCS). Good luck! Debbie |
Thanks, Debbie. I am older than my fiance and have never thought it a concern until I saw others worry. Thanks for confirming :) And thanks, Sunny (yay, you're back!) and Scott, for some understanding on this issue.

NevAnna, I have seen your picture. You look like you are 21:) I have a tremdous understanding of age gaps and to be nonest really do not think much of it. Only thing that ever bothers me is a stereo type that seems to be common in the Philippines with the drasticaly older men, usually in their late 60's and 70's prettending it is normal to be engaged to an 18 year old. None of my business and I am not one to judge. It is more of an attitude that bothers me. The, "Cant find a young wife in the US, so lets go to a poverty strucken country" Even worse when I get to know some of the men and find out that they used internet services to meet one another who actually sell the idea of, "These woman are desperate, easy and submissive". Sort of off the topic I know, but after spending much time talking to people online and seeing first had in Manila and Cebu I really have to wonder what the purpose of the engagement really is. Is this senior citizen with two ex wifes, 4 kids and 10 grand children really engaged to this young innocent 20 year old woman because he is in love or only way to get laid without have to go to third and Union and pay for it. So my understanding, with a 30 year age gap, depends where the age gap is. A forty year old woman with a 70 year old man. What would Dear Abby have to say? A 25 year old woman with a 55 year old man, what would the average person think of in the area that you live? A 15 year old girl with a 45 year old man, what would the warden of Sing Sing State Penatentary think?
I remember that a friend of Nanette who is in her mid twenties had a visit from an "Internet Fiancee" come to visit in the Philippines. She was so proud that she send me pictures. They guy is 62! There comes a point when the age difference becomes selfish. If you are a senior in your 50 or 60's dont ruin a young womans life because you are tired of dating at the retirment home. There is actually a really good book that I read called, "A long way to go for a date" about a Canadian man in his 50's who married a woman in her early 20's. Guy was a moron, but worth the read. So far all the people pissed off at me for pointing some of these things out.... Sorry, but if you can purchase off the senior citizen menu... It is time to realize your age. Date at the retirement home, not a third world country:) It statiscally will turn out bad for you and can destroy their lives and reputation with their families. Scott |

Different culture may influence interviewers to act in such a way for their
interview tactic fo find out what they are looking for. Please, nurse, can you find my walking frame?..And, yes, I think I can manage a little bread soaked in warm milk today. You made me feel suddenly ancient, Scott.......lol......tho, actually, I agree with your point that age differences are relative at different times of life.. (Me 61, Julie 40 er +) Oh and I suppose I could say that I have known 20 year olds who will be at least 50 all their lives........lol.
