After the approval, consulate steps very confusing?!
 

Hi,

So I just read through the thread on this site explaining the steps for the interview, and I have to be honest..its confusing!!!

This is how I understand it...and im probably wrong...

1. Consulate sends info on steps to completing the packet 3.

2. Beneficiary completes forms: DS-230 Part 1, DS-156, DS-157 and DS-156K (some in duplicates)....and then you send it back to the London (in our case).

3. Gather all the extra required documents (police report, birth certificate, affadavit of support, passport photos) and then complete the form IV-15K. Send that form in with a cover letter.

AM I CORRECT THAT YOU DO NOT SEND IN THE DOCUMENTS? You keep those for the interview right?

4. Make the medical exam appt.

5. Medical exam sends docs to consulate, they send you a letter of interview appt.

Thats how I understand it works.

So I know that everyone should get all the needed documents before hand (police report etc etc), but can you send that in ALL at the same time with the load of other forms? I mean if you have it all ready ...why not?

Also can you make the medical appt as SOON as you get the instruction packet from the consulate? That seems like it would save time.

Lastly...passport photos for the USA are different sizes in England, so the passport photos needed will have to be taken at the consulate at time of interview....since there isnt anywhere up north England that can make them how they need?

You can book the medical as soon as you have the LND case number.


Digital camera, printer, photo paper... DIY. :) Perfectly acceptable.

I googled and found this OLD information about the LND number.

It is from 2004 and can not be verified:

a letter which will tell you that within a 10 day time period of the
date of the letter your case will be forwarded to the consulate. Your
new case number will be on the letter. And if you are going through
London, it will start with LND.

I suggest you search for later mentions of LND numbers, however, I do not think the forum software allows 3 letter searches, you may have to be more creative with your searching. Information about obtaining the LND number is also a goal of my own. People here have often suggested contacting the NVC daily, this may or may not be for their LND number though. Search here, like I'll be doing right now :)

OP is doing the K-1 visa judging by her other threads. :)

Britlover - you're correct, you send in all the required completed forms and the IV-15 checklist to say that you're ready for interview. You don't send any other documents (police certificate etc) as you need to have those with you at your interview and the embassy don't want them beforehand! :)

As Ian said, you can book your medical as soon as you have your LND number. I've heard recently that you now have to take your police certificate to your medical.

As for passport photos, if you don't have a photo printer then you can do as I did and go to Snappy Snaps and they can do US-sized passport photos for you. They weren't cheap but I didn't have a photo printer and it was just easier for me to get them done there. I got mine done right after my medical in London. You might be able to get them done in other parts of the UK too but I never tried! :thumbup:

Because that is not the order to submit them in. :blink:
K visa documents go to the interview with you.



I don't understand what is confusing about it.. can you illuminate? Maybe you'll get a 'better' explanation?

Fortunately they only need to see a photocopy / scan of the original.

Just as well, as the Police Certificate will be sent by the Beneficiary (UK person) to the NVC as part of 'package IV'

The link you provided is information for people filing for a spousal visa (immigrant visa). The OP appears to be applying for a K-1 (fiancée) visa. She doesn't need to send the police certificate anywhere, she takes it with her to the US embassy in London when she has her interview.

Yes. You only have to send in the forms.
Because, they don't want to see them until you go for the interview, and also you don't want to send all your important personal documents in the post.

Yes, but make sure you have the police certificate, as you will need it at the medical. To be safe, I didn't book my medical till I had the police certificate in my hand.

We are applying for the K1 visa. We are just waiting on the approval...Im just trying to get everything prepared.
