Default Affidavit of Support Question

Hi guys,

My wife (US Citizen) and I (Dual UK&EU Citizen) are just about to send IV Pack and financial docs to NVC.

We are going to use a very good friend of ours to help meeting the requirements for the Affidavit of support I-864 form.

Could you please advise whether we have to complete two separate I-864 forms, one in my wife`s name and the other one in the Sponsor`s name?

Very Best Wishes,
Avi

Your wife is your sponsor, even if she doesn't qualify financially. So she needs to complete an I-864 package.

The good friend will be a Joint Sponsor, and will need to complete a separate I-864 package.

So yes, there will be two I-864 packages.

What is the income guideline to sponsor, viz, how do I know if I need someone else to co-sponsor?

Read I-864P to see if a joint sponsor is needed. If income isn't high enough then assets can be used (see I-864 instructions).

Last edited by tom169; Mar 28th 2017 at 12:37 am. Reason: Seems I-864P doesn't mention assets

Another question: according to instructions, you have to submit taxes from last year or last 3. My 2016 taxes were filed married, joint with my ex-husband. Is that an issue?

The most recent year is required. The ConOff typically asks for 3.

No, that won't be an issue.
