Affidavit of support- job support?
My wife and I have received approval of the I-130 (hurrah!)- and have received packet
3 today. After going through the paperwork, I've found that while my American wife
(who will be our sponsor) will be submitting 3 years of tax returns to prove that she
has had a steady income while we've been in the UK, she also needs to furnish some
proof that she will have income in the US either with a UK or US company (or assets
to add up to 5 times the 125% above poverty level). It said that letters of job
offers in the US do not count. If we do not have this, we will need a co-sponsor.
We had planned that we wouldn't leave our jobs (or notify our employers) until the
visa has been approved. However, my wife may be able to do some freelancing when we
move to the US with her current employer. The catch 22 is that she won't know until
she asks and she doesn't want to have to have that discussion until she knows that we
have the visa. Hence, I wondered if there is any way around this...? Do most people
use a co-sponsor or do they assume that one person goes across to the US first to get
a job and then brings their foreign spouse along after?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
