Thank you again so much all, this is a massive help. Thanks, especially, for pointing out potential problems.

If you and your intended are hoping to be world hoppers residing in the US sometimes and the UK at others, then the ultimate goal is to naturalize in each others respective countries. Doing so eliminates the expensive and time consuming activities involved in obtaining the appropriate visas, relinquishing them, and starting all over again. Yes, there is a certain prolonged timeline involved in naturalizing for both US and UK citizenship but the advantage of carrying both passports outweighs the lost of a year or so of waiting to naturalize. I urge you to give this strong consideration.

We look forward to hearing from you in the future when you have made your decision(s) and assisting wherever possible in making the process as smooth as possible.

Thank you again! Is there anywhere to get official stats on visa wait times? Or is that just based off word-of-mouth experience?

www.uscis.gov for the petition wait times, but take it with a grain of salt. Then there is the embassy wait time for visa interview, not sure if they post those or not. Best to go by recent threads giving their timelines, with the understanding that yours could be faster or longer.

in general, 12 months from start to finish. And could be different by the time you start your own process.

Perfectly fine to marry in the US on the VWP as long as you then leave the US to apply for the visa.

Of course, it's up to you, but the general consensus here is that you do NOT need to involve an attorney. Save the money and do it yourself.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have, but if you have the ability to fill out a few forms and gather some documentation, it's a relatively straight-forward process.

Thanks Guindalf - I suspect we'll do the paperwork ourselves once we have a plan in place. We're actually looking for recommendations for a lawyer we can speak to now to run through the various options. At this stage we want to reach a plan as quickly as possible to avoid delays. Your advice is much appreciated, good to know the forms themselves aren't too onerous!
