Default Advance Parole

My wife has her Advance Parole papers to go back home for Christmas and we
have some questions about the specifics of the AP process. She has 2 pages
of the same document, each with her photo. It states it is for multiple
reentries. I assume she has to show this and her passport with K1 Visa
attached (we are now married, she has her SSN, EAD).

Does she have to show both copies? Do they keep one of them? Does it have
to be mailed back somewhere if it is stamped and handed back to her? Did
she get 2 copies because it is for multiple reentries?

Thanks,

Mark in Orlando

Hi Mark,

My husband has yet to use the APs he received (2 identical pages, just like your wife did), but from what I've read on here, she only needs to bring 1 with her. Upon return to the USA, they will stamp it and give it back to her. I guess they send 2 just in case they keep it at the POE for some reason, or just if you lose one...who knows?

Best Wishes,
Rene

Hi:

The local approval letter in LOS recommends making several extra copies of the second page so the airline will have one to lift. The original one will be stamped with your entry and returned to you.

Do take the passport, no visa necessary. You still need to complete the I-94 on the plane.

Upon returning to the US , your wife needs to present her valid passport and the AP.
The AP takes the place of any VISA. An I-94 does have to be filled out onboard the
incoming flight just like everyone else. At the immigration desk the immigration officer
will escort your wife (and you) to a back room. There will be a counter with a couple
of immigration officers and a nice friendly portrait of George W. Bush hanging on the wall.
There you will be asked to sit down and wait while another officer
does a check on your wifes AP on the computer. When done, the officer will stamp the
first page of the AP. The stamp will probably show a date that is later than the one that
is TYPED on the AP form itself. Ignore the date on the stamp, the one that is TYPED
is the valid one. People have been denied entry because they confused the validity date
of the AP because of that stamp date.
If the room is not crowded you should be done in 10-15 minutes and they will send
you on your way.
The AP is indeed for multiple entries, valid until the date typed. I have always thought that the
second page might be necessary in case the AP holder goes in and out of the US enough times
in one year that the first page gets too many stamps. This is just my guess.
If you submit both pages, the immigration officers will simply stamp the first page and hand
both pages back to you. They will not keep the second page. No your wife does not have
to mail it back anywhere after it is stamped. Simply use it again on the next trip.
As you can see there really isn't as much to this AP thing as you might have imagined.
