Default Admin. review in Mumbai FINALLY OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For everyone on Admin. Review at the Mumbai Consulate...my husband
recieved a letter in the mail from the Embassy telling him he's
approved and to come in at 7:45 am on any working day M-F to get his
visa. We've been waiting for close to a year now....and the wait is
finally over. January was his first interview, but he was told to
come back in May with additional evidence even though he had
everything that they needed. We tried to get the date for 2nd
interview pushed up earlier but they just wouldn't budge. 2nd
interview in May was when they actually put the case in Admin. Review.
The letter from embassy telling him to come in was dated Oct. 28th.
So the wait was just about 5 months.
So, everyone dealing with MUMBAI, especially the ones with age and
race differences, there is hope!!! Don't despair!!! The wait does seem
to be at the 5 month mark.
GOOD LUCK to Amys, Md, and the others!! Hope this info helps you all!!
Karen
And thank you to Tara for all the helpful advice!

Hi Karen:

How long it took for review?

Could you please post the dates from begining to end please?

1sat NOA?
2nd NOA?
Date papers went to Mumbai?
1st Interview at Mumbai?
Any other dates....

One othet thing, from your nane I could not figure out if you are Indian origin or not? If not was it a multiracial marriage (Indian-American or Indian-Indian)?

I am trying to understand that if those facts went onto the way to make that delay. My case is straight forward and unfortunately I will be dealing with Mumbai. I heard all kind of horror story about that polace. I am rally scared.

Thanks.

CONGRATULATIONS KAREN AND HUBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is great news and you must be relieved this is finally over. Now you can begin your life.

We are over 3 1/2 months now on this horrible review crap and hopefully we will get approved soon. I miss him so much. This wait of not knowing what is going on is driving me crazy.

Default glad you started a new thread

for this wonderful new! i'm sure many people have followed your case and want to send wishes.

That's just like the "black hole"...one fine day they just contact you and give the visa. In three years i have never seen one denied (i have seen one sent back to the US for reconsideration, but that is another story, and the woman quit posting the results).

You must be so excited! Time to go shopping for some warm clothes for him. This is my husbands second autumn here and he is already freezing (and we live in the south)!

In India there is a love story and part of it reads...

~~*~~He holds her hand in his and promises to return her devotion. Her trauma is transformed to ecstasy and they become the legendary lovers for eternity~~*~~

Welcome to the next part of the fairytale.
(ps) The woman in the story is OLDER than the man!

Amy, you are up next! Start organizing the drawers and closets to accomodate! Learn how to cook his favorite meal!

Saha, if you have the "typical " (you know what i mean by that) Indian arrangement you should not face what these women have faced. They may pull a rabbit out of the hat, and ask for some irrelevant scrap of paper (ie. marriage pics of the beneficiary siblings). i would just love to see the day when they ask this and the applicant actually has this with them! Ohyes sir...."you want the wrapper from the last candy bar i ate?" Have it right here sir!

They do scrutinize the support papers. You DO know that Mumbai requires 3 years of taxes? Also they are BIG on having pictures and proofs of the engagement ceremony, be sure to have all of that for them. It gets chilly in the Consulate too, so remind her to bring a sweater and eat a good breakfast (food is there but it gets gone quick and it may be a long day).

Best wishes to all,

Thank Tara. You are right; mine was the way you thought, arranged. However, we had a chance more than six months to get to know each other over the phone/email. In that sense it was arrange come understanding. But family was in charge to made that happen.

Thanks for the advice again. My wife is already nervous. I hope they do not pull the rabbit out of their hat when she is there. I need every one's prayer more than the reason is I am dealing Mumbai, the "Hale Hole". May Lord be with us!

Thank you for the congratulations everybody. Yes, 1 thing i didn't
mention in my post is that i'm 10 yrs older than my husband. As the
Indians in this posting know, that's a no no in Indian culture. They
treated him very rudely, comments about my looks and his father's
looks were made.....well i could go on and on, but it's over and I'm
not going to think about that anymore!
Saha, Tara is right...you have nothing to worry about as long as your
paperwork is in order and you can show that you have the "typical"
Indian marriage. Our timeline was:
I-130-July 5, 2001 (filed)
NOA-Aug. 13, 2001
K3 filed- Aug.14, 2001
NOA-Oct. 2001
1st interview for k3- January 22, 2002
2nd interview for k3- May 23, 2002

You all will be fine. If they gave it to us with our age, race and
religious ( he's muslim), differences, everyone here on this posting
that's worried and stressed, everything will be fine for you!

Hi everyone,This is wonderful news oopss sorry i know i am late to
congratulate karen.Hey karen has your K-1 /K-3 visa mix up problem
been solved?Actually i have been off the postings for quite a while.I
go under the id of ravi_td in britishexpats postings.
Me and my fiance had a tough time for the past 3 months after we were
put on administrative review. We had already purchased wedding rings to
marry ,made holiday plans for december,so it was hard for us when the
consulate put us on review. Both of us were depressed and didnt know
what to do.But we have kept in touch with the consulate with the help
of my fiance's Congressman and her senator. The consulate replied to us
(the congressman)and I quote "The case is under review,it requires
further investigation,we will contact him directly as soon as the
review is over".I feel great after hearing about you Karen,it must
have felt like you on top of the world.Me and my fiance do have an age
difference of 6 years,so it felt good when i heard about you.Anyhow we
are waiting for our turn now at the consulate. In the meantime we have
sent the consulate some additional evidence which the consular
officers had already seen at the time of the interview, but we thought
it would be good if the evidence stays with the rest the of the things
at the consulate.Anyhow we also sent "notarised copies" of our intent
to marry to the consulate again.Me and my fiance used to pray everyday
for the interview to be over sucessfully, now we hope & pray everyday
for our review to be over soon. And i read somewhere that Amy is going
to Mumbai.Amy please let us (me) know what you have been upto at the
consulate after you have made your trip.
Goodluck to everyone else who is stuck at Mumbai consulate!!!

No, actually the problem hasn't been solved yet. My husband went to
the Mumbai Consulate last week to pick up his K3 visa, but they gave
him a K1 instead. He actually didn't notice it until he got back on
the train to go back home (Gujarat). My senator's liason called me
thursday and said she had gotten an email from the consulate saying
"We are pleased to inform you that MR. %%*&^*& has been issued the K1
visa" etc. Well she was confused and wondering why they had given him
a K1 and i had no idea because the phone numbers in his town have
added another digit and I didn't know what it was so i couldn't
contact him right away. Anyways, he was told by a lawyer there that
maybe they are still suspicious of our marriage and they decided to
give him a K1 so he would have to have a marriage ceremony over here
too. I'm totally confused, but i told him to go back to the consulate
this monday and tell them he needs a K3 or else there could be alot of
problems for him at the Portland Oregon POE!! I'm just worried now
that they will try to screw up something at the Mumbai Consulate, he
has a plane ticket for this coming Sunday. I hope this is resolved on
Monday, we have been thru hell and high water with these people. We
have waited since JANUARY 2002 for this visa and have gone through
rioting in his home state, he's nearly died from a case of malaria in
April. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Monday they give him the
right visa!
Ravi, I know you and the others will be fine. If we got the visa with
our 11 yr age difference, for all of you it will be a piece of cake!
GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Karen ,Thanks for replying. So did your husband get the K3 instead
of K1 on monday what did the consulate tell him.And dont worry i dont
think it will be a problem with the consulate regarding this.Yes i do
agree some people have more than their share of bad luck or tough
times than others, not to mention the events we had some pretty tough
times, but my best wishes are with you.I am glad to hear that the
consulate replied to your Senator Liason.Keep us informed here about
the progress of your mix up.I will wrote more in case there is any
further progress in our case.I think we owe a lot to the initiative
taken by ppl like Tara and sorry if i didnt mention names of any other
old timers!
Wishing good luck to everyone here!
