Well, the problem is, who are they?
Bin Laden is a Saudi, the hijackers were Saudi and Egyptian, the money was Saudi, and
we're bombing Afghanistan? The poor Afghanis are guilty only of not having enough
political clout to get rid of the terrorists.
If we want to stop this in the future, we should be doing some "nation-building"
there: installing a democratic government that respects women's rights etc. in Saudi
Arabia. But we can't, because they have oil and so do all of their friends.
This isn't a simple issue.

The poor Afghanis are guilty of living under a government which actively supports and
shelters terrorists, as the Iraqis are guilty of living under the government of a mad
man bent on developing weapons of mass destruction. It's a shame that there's no
simple way to target just a government. The people always seem to bear the brunt of
the retribution.

The United States is guilty of supporting governments who are friendly to U.S.
interests, as opposed to governments who reflect the will of their populations. That
has haunted us in the past, as it will haunt us in the future.
Then again, imposing our value systems on other people has been equally disastrous.
A president once said that there were no easy problems for a president to solve. If
the problem was easy, someone already solved it.

We're thinking of contacting Engine 74 - the guy with the FDNY T-shirt with the
tongue in the middle of the FDNY cross. We want to ask if they'd be willing to take
orders for them as a fund-raiser. I could probably sell a good 20 or so at $35
each.... a mini fund-raiser if they're willing =)

I'm sorry - I don't look at things this way. I don't get into the "comparison" game.
Loss of innocent lives isn't a good thing, no matter where that life lived. I don't
see how 100 women dying in Afghanistan due to "collateral damage" isn't also a bad
thing. It's not a balance sheet - it's human beings.
Soilders are one thing - civilians another. Don't lose sight that many many
many people in Afghanistan do NOT support the Taliban, what they represent and
what they do.
As for that last part.... Anthrax isn't contagious - try smallpox.

If nothing else, the falling bodies and the firemen carrying out their dead
chaplain, should be enough of a reminder of what really happened; and, more
importantly, what *MUST* be done.

The following link shows what *could* happen, if Diplomacy were tried as a
solution. Kind of a neat idea. *
