5 Years later We get Permanent Resident Status!!!!!!!!!!! (Timeline Attached)
I am proud to announce to this newsgroup which helped us out immensely
that we have finally received the Permanent Resident Card. It only took about 3 months for us to get the Card since we went to Philadelphia last August. I am very happy that this process is over with, at least until the card expires in 2013. I want to let people who have been waiting a long time like us to know: have hope this actually does end. Its funny reading my first post to this newsgroup. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e....ibm.net#link1 Thank you very much to everyone who helped us. There are too many to mention and few of them are regulars anymore, myself included. If Emma goes for citizenship, I will describe what that process is like. I apologize if I've gone from being a newsgroup contributer to just someone who documents our experiences. :) Jim (and Emma) ************************************************** *************************** Timeline: 10-9-98: Petition sent out (put everything in separate folders into big envelope through certified mail) 10-13-98: Petition gets there after Columbus Day weekend. 10-16-98: Petition received (must have been the trip from the mail room) 10-23-98: Notice of Action received but fiancee's last name is mispelled. 10-26-98: Petition approved. Could not reach INS on lunch break with busy signals. 10-27-98: After 15 minutes, got an INS representative who said mistake would be fixed. 10-30-98: Approval Notice received in mail with correct spelling!!!!! 1-27-99: Emma goes to London, gets chest X Ray and gets K1 Visa after interview. 2-14-99: In the UK we have a Blessing ceremony which is like a wedding with all the costumes and family, just no marriage certificate involved. 4-24-99: Emma entered the US on K1 visa. 5-29-99: We get married in Scranton, PA at my aunt's house. 6 weeks later Social Security Card arrives and Emma can finally work. In July, 1999 she gets EAD at Philadelphia office. 10-21-99: AOS interview. Not that bad of an experience other than my wife not letting me go to the King of Prussia Mall after. We brought advanced parole form with us. ;) http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...home.com#link1 4-4-00: Emma gets passport stamped for I 551, good until 4-25-01. Emma gets Permanent residence card with conditions attached. 1-15-02: we get NOA that I751 Application to remove conditional status has been received. Estimated processing time: 30 days to 12 months. 7-13-03: Our Daughter Catie is born! 8-16-03: after a longass backlog with the Vermont office we finally get the approval letter that conditions have been removed!!! The calls I made to the congressional aide were purely informational and did nothing to expedite things. 8-19-03: We went to the Philadelphia BCIS office to give them the paperwork that they sent us (approval or removal of conditions). We were told that the Permanent Resident card would arrive in 6-12 months. 11-17-03 Permanent Resident Card arrives in the mail!!!!! Saga over? ;) Citizenship time. |
