Wireless/Bluetooth Music in my house

Here's what I want to do and I think it should be simple, play any music that is coming out of my computer speakers on my stereo elsewhere in the house. Means I could listen to any streaming radio or whatever I please that I can find on the interwebs while not in my office.

There does seem to be some articles on digital media solutions, but they all seem outdated (2003) and products referenced no longer exist.

I can find digital media solutions that carry video and pictures etc, but I don't need that. My Xbox can already link in my pictures and downloaded media to my TV. Plus I also have an MP3 player that if I want just music I can easily connect through an aux jack into my stereo.

I've found Apple's Airport Express but it's limited to itunes music, which i don't have and wouldn't allow for streaming radio to be carried.

I've also found a Sony Bluetooth stereo which I'd be prepared to buy, but can't find an equivalent bluetooth piece of kit that would actually generate the signal at the PC. Right now I have a wireless network, so would prefer to link into that somehow without creating a whole new bluetooth network.

I was expecting it to be as simple as finding a couple of dongles, one at the PC end and one at the Stereo end, but no such luck. Anyone done anything similair?

You want something along the lines of a Logitech Squeezebox. Not cheap though.

squeeze box is the only one that I know does it wirelessly succesfully

one other simple cheat is to by pass the problem and use the main pc and attach an Ipod FM transmitter I'm not sure of the range but then an FM radio in the house should pick up the signal (if its strong enough)

That's a good idea as long as you don't want to be able to change the music without going back to the PC, and of course you don't mind anyone within range listening in.
Something like this http://www.mobileblackbox.com/ would probably do a better job than the iPod FM adapter.

This looks neat, and more affordable, hadn't thought along the FM route. Can't easily see it available in Canada though, could probably find an equivalent instead.

Are the small car ones powerful enough to transmit through a house or are they built for pretty small spaces?

I have a FM transmitter I got with a shower radio in the UK for 10 quid - will do a couple of rooms clear as a bell, but starts to get a bit static at distance. Probably wouldn't do all the way from upstairs to basement in your average Canadian home....

I believe Philips did a range of wifi, alarms, speakers etc a few years ago. Have a look at : http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/New-P...ock-Radio.html

How about a baby monitor, one with the receiver on a belt clip? Plug the transmitter in, aim the speakers at it and attach receiver to your belt.

Our IPod FM transmitter can’t get from the back of the car to the radio so be careful of the range. As my range is not good.

This is the simplest solution:

http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Produ...roduct=2610510

I have one and have to say its not brilliant. Signal has a lot of interference. It is cheap though!

Just picked one of those up figured as it was only $20 it was worth a shot. So far working a treat, you can pick your signal so it makes it easy to avoid other stations for less interference and I can pick it up now in most of my house nice and clear.

The picture on the site is a little deceiving, you only need the USB part, the bulkier other piece is if you want to power the adaptor by batteries for using on the go. Guy in the store tried to tell me that it would only send from the one piece to the other!!
