Default Winter Vacation 2019/2020

In the very likely event we do not make the move this year, we are looking to a winter vacation, we keep saying we will but never do. My dream destination is the Galapagos but that's always a bit spend. Central/South America really appeals.

Where have you been? Have you done an escorted tour? Would you go again?

This is of course if we don't spend the Vacation fund on a puppy, we are both wanting a puppy but are trying to be sensible, that's if talking to breeders and going to dog shows is being sensible of course 😉🤣

Lots of rescues out there just desperate for that "forever home"......your choice of course, but maybe think on it. In the process of adopting another rescue at the moment, our third over the years and all, without exception have been wonderful dogs in every way. 😎😎

My sister did the S.America and Galapagos thing from the UK - guided to a degree.. she had a wonderful time although she suffered with altitude sickness in Peru. She's since been back to S.America including a cruise up the Amazon..

I haven't had a vacation in more than 20 years, apart from 7 days in a cottage near Tobermory 2 years ago. Gone are the days when I would gallivant worldwide What do you like to do on vacation - recommendations will depend on what kind of vacation you prefer.

Daisy Piggy was 5 when she came to us, she was brilliant. I wouldn't have a issue with an older dog. We want breed specific, I would want to meet the previous owners and talk about any possible health issues if we took in another older dog. If we get a young puppy it will be from a responsible breeder that screens for temperament and health. I am not a 'dog' person as in I am not a 'children' person, I like what I like and I like mine, not too fussed about other peoples if that makes sense, so I will be being picky. The breed/s we like very seldom end up in shelters in our area - different story in areas of the USA though. Miss my puppy dawgs so very much. Henry has been gone almost a year now.

We are not sit on the beach and roast people. Our holidays usually involve us driving from place to place with little relaxation (UK relative visiting). We like things to do in a relaxed manner if that makes sense. I like the idea of a tour but OH has said he doesn't want rushing from place to place. A tour for me gives me a sense of safety in a region we have never been to before. I think OH like the idea of a city/beach break, you know for example 3 nights Havana 4 nights Varedeo but I want to go away for longer.

Not sure why I'm getting my hopes up, OH seems very blah about it all so we probably won't get to go anywhere as the prices will go to high lol

Hawaii if you don't want to travel far, stay away from the big island though, too touristy.
Caribbean is nice.
Maybe the Bahamas?

Galapagos would be super cool though, such a unique place.

We have friends who did the Galapagos thing several years ago, with one of the small exclusive tour companies. They loved it, had lots of good stories .......... but it cost a lot of money!

They also did Antarctica with the same company, leaving from somewhere on the east coast of S America (???Rio??), to the Falkland Islands, into Antarctica and walking on the ice in one certain area, then back to the west side of SA, with the plan to get up to I think Lima. However, the ship had some sort of problem that needed repair, so they offloaded at Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego and put on planes home.

Again extremely expensive, but they loved it .......... and they got Antarctica-warm jackets as part of the cost!

He was more energetic than she, so he would go for longer walks when on land, while she stayed around the landing site.

One week, somewhere to relax, with plenty to see?

Tempted by South of France? Flights and hotel for two can be had for $3000. I've done Nice first week of December. Lovely blue sky and warm if sheltered from the breeze. Outdoor heaters in some places. We ate in a restaurant on the beach opposite the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, just screens up and I sat in a T-Shirt. Got suntanned arms!

Visit Cannes, Monaco - the Oceanographic Museum - wander around the harbour and the huge boats, explore the hilltop towns like St Paul de Vence. Bus and local trains easy to get about on. Modern shopping in Nice, nip into Italy....

sigh.....

I have promised my husband that we will never have to go to France again and that amount of travel for a week is too much. If we are flying 8 hrs or more we will be away for at least 10 nights. 😂

I really don't think we can afford the Galapagos at the moment....however when we sell the house maybe🤣 It's my dream destination 100% when we go we will do it right and not on the cheap, we will also do land based not boat. I would love to travel all of South America.

I'd be back there in a heartbeat especially the area inland which is not as expensive to stay etc. The old town in Cannes is nice and you can go for nice walks on Ile-Ste-Marguite.

Until you mentioned Toulouse I was going to suggest just not going to Paris.

Familty wedding in a Chateau half hour away from Toulouse. Lots of family stress on the groom's side. Sadly it has affected my relationship with my sister, but we will get back on track, she does have her funny periods.
