We just shovel our snow to the side of our deck, making room for 'the smoker' (MIL) and a pathway.

(took the old ugly railings off when we moved here and enjoyed the kind of floating deck feel and the better views from it for several years, but then the insurance company got wind and I had to fashion some railings just to keep them happy)
What was the objection?

I would if I used the damn thing. Right now it's an expensive object sitting in my driveway thanks to COVID and WFH for the last 10 months.

This amused me…..

As did this………(I’m easily amused. Still, helps take the mind of the chilliness)

My objection to the railings was....they're ugly.

Insu Co's objection to no railings was.....the deck is four foot or so above the ground, thus rendering it a death hazard, I guess. (I do not like not being allowed to do what I want on my property)

We like to just shove the snow off our deck and we need to keep it clear, because big snow around the house tends to make the sou sol soggy.

(Got a bit excited about your having a smoker......then, not so much)

We had snow squalls this morning, lake effect snow all afternoon - and another snow squall forecast for overnight.. the report says 23cm but I had a lot more than that in my garden.. partially due to the winds causing drifts. :yield:

When an Arctic Outflow Wind meets a large rain event coming from the Pactifc .................

Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland get hit.

Victoria and southern VI are expected to get between 15 and 25 cm through today. That's the most since about 10 or so years ago.

It started to snow in Vancouver ca 3:30 am this morning, very very fine snow, and we have about 4-5 cm on the ground at ca 10 am Pacific time. It's still coming down, very fine but very fast.

Temperature around -2/-3 C at 10 am

OH will be out shovelling soon.

We got about 9 cm. Victoria about 10 cm, and the Malahat Highway north of Victoria got about 30 cm at its high point.

Snow stopped here about 3 pm, some melting then freezing.

Snow again this morning as another pacific storm rolled in and met the Arctic Outflow winds still blowing out of all the river valleys.

Haha. Yeeah, we do. Well, we all know how Quebec likes to do things a little differently !

The discovery of different types of snow and ice here is ongoing and, like the Eskimos, I have accumulated many words and phrases to describe the various snow related phenomena……….not all of them are polite.

We have a winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow. They are saying 26 cm of snow, but, in my experience, they meant inches. Apparently another dumping Wednesday night. Enough of the stuff has already been deposited here over the past couple of weeks, so I’m already fed up with the whole snow clearing malarky, talk about knackering, and we are only half way through the season…. probably…

I liked last Winter better.

We are forecast for 15-25cm later today, into tomorrow. Thankfully we don’t have any snow clearing to do now,

Roll on summer.
