"Why England is Rotting"

England leads Europe in illiteracy, obesity, divorce, drug use, crime and STDs. Bloody hell...

Presumably the drug use and STDs go some way toward offseting that awful obesity.

It really is that bad now, certainly in a lot of areas (I won't say everywhere, I know some people lived in areas that were much nicer). That's why we left last year, we couldn't stand the idea of raising children there.

Oh, I should add that they are probably divorced & illiterate too - that's the full set! Not to worry though, I'm sure they'll be given an ASBO or something really intimidating..:curse:

It wouldn't suprise me if Surrey's hookers commute to Essex - it's not that far and business seems to be booming here:D

I've already commented upon this on another thread but here's my twopenny worth all the same.

The article questions facts that contradicts its viewpoint but then states it's own views as undeniable fact. Just another selective agrument from the types that normally write for the Daily Mail. There is much good about the UK, it's not perfect and not without its fair share of problems. I just find it a shame that articles such as this only focus on the negative and seemingly imagine that other countries have discovered utopia. You could write similarly negative articles about any other country in the world.

I agree totally. I happen to like the UK, will miss it and actally plan to come back- of course it has some problems - but where doesn't?

Here. No obesity on this corner in Toronto. The ugly tranny weighs about eight stone, despite being six feet tall (6' 6" in heels). The beggars working the cars at the traffic lights are mostly on meth, they don't eat because they have no teeth, and that keeps them looking trim.

I'm with this too.

If there was a perfect place we'd either all be there, or we'd have screwed it up because we're all there.

I didn't apply to emigrate for negative reasons (and I'm not saying that posters are either), rather I choose to try to see the positives and remember the good things that my country of origin has to offer.

If my application is successful, Canada represents new opportunities for me and grass that is not necessarily greener but different.

I also remember that, by virtue of my education, opportunities, life experience, etc I have the chance to take this step - not everyone does.

the problem is england is too soft!, look how hard we are all working to go to Canada, meanwhile, there are 5 somarlians on my husbands ward, all HIV, 4 are illegal and 1 working as prostitute in a nice town nearby, all riddled with TB and their drugs alone are £750 a day! each!, do you think they would get treatment like that from anywhere else? no wonder the NHS is crippled, to them this country is Eutopia

They would, and people in a similar situation do, get the same treatment at St. Mike's hospital in Toronto.

They wouldn't be billed, no, that's the point of a taxpayer funded healthcare system.

Somalis here are typically refugees so they wouldn't be shipped anywhere either though that depends somewhat on their status and the willingness of the authorities to act. Changes are that, unless they were wanted in a third country, they'd be ignored even if obviously illegal.

The only difference here is the Canadian press don't make it a national headline. Britain has become a nation hooked on unimportant trivia masquerading as important news.

In the states, yes, they would be billed, shipped or ignored. Then look at all the humanitarianists whine about the way the USA deals with it... of course.

Re: "Why England is Rotting"

There is definitely a palpable feeling that something in the air is changing.
I lived in a rural area in the west country, close to Charlie and Camilla. What one would call a nice area, I guess. Overnight nearly all the bus drivers in the area were Polish, that in itself is not an issue, but the influx IS massive. Honda apparently send recruiters out to eastern bloc countries for two reasons, the UK youngsters they get on the production line either can't handle the work or think it's beneath them or both. And Eastern Europeans are cheap labour. Again not an issue, they're filling a role that we are not.

In Reading, my father in law, whose lived there since a young boy and is a pretty tough cookie (he had bright red curly hair!) recently got beaten up and had his nose broken for absolutely no reason by a large group of older British teenagers - although he is a martial arts expert and fought back! But the kids didn't care if he lived or died. He has had two attempted break-ins in 6 months and has also been scammed by Romanians outside a building society, losing several hundred pounds - if someone squirts ketchup on you and someone else offers to help you clean it off, just walk away!

The policeman, he spoke to said that the Polish "mafia" had moved into Oxford St (never the best place in Reading) and were stirring up a lot of problems as they are often, shall we say, less racially tolerant and Oxford street has a very high proportion of coloured people. On top of this, they are really there to exploit their compatriots and then move on to try and screw the rest of us.

Obviously I have no beef with immigration!! But it does need to be sensibly managed, but we are bound by the EU rules so we can't really. The UK infra-structures, or any other country come to that, can't cope with massive migrations. On top of that you have a generation of youths that really don't give a toss about anything and know they can't be touched - obviously not all kids, but enough for it to be felt.

Together these things are making life in Britain feel more difficult. I have no idea what the solution is, because I believe the freedom of movement is a good thing ultimately.

One interesting statistic that I saw somewhere was that number of roles filled by migrant workers was quite close to the number of unemployed claiming benefits! If it's true, does anyone see a solution here?

Just to be clear I'm not racist or a Daily Mail reader, this is just what I've seen or heard about.

I thought your post was well put together, there is something in the air for sure, just look at the local newspapers of any city outside of london and people will get a clearer understanding.

I have even noticed that sky website has a crime section now, which is new.

Thanks John,
I did choose my words carefully because on subjects of race and nationality many people will jump down your throat very quickly with accusations of racism ... or Daily Mail readership :p

But the thing that appeals to me about Canada is that the majority are in effect foreigners so they all just have to get along.

I took a 3 month contract in Switzerland and they have recently relaxed their border controls under EU pressure. They are experiencing something similar - we had a bag stolen on the train as we got here - unheard of a few years OK but apparently very common on the trains now. And crime is on the rise here in general and it's nearly always attributed to foreigners.

Unfortunately we have to go back to Reading :o, to stay with my father in law while we wait for the last stages of our Canadian application to take it's course

Hi HamShank,
The Daily Mail remark was just a joke, and it doesn't imply that the Daily Mail is bigoted or racist, or that it's readers are. The 'joke' is that their readers are stereotyped as conservative leaning and fearful of change and that the paper itself is full of scare mongering stories - it is a joke, please don't take offense if you are a Daily Mail reader, I mentioned it because someone else referred to the Daily Mail earlier in the thread.

Let's get something straight here.

The Daily Mail IS a joke and so are its readers.

I don't care if I offended someone with that statement.

If you read the Daily Mail and accept what it says as gospel, then please: stay away from Canada...

...and no. I'm not joking.
