Why was this (Biscuits!) thread closed?

So I was sat down reading the UK dailies online and came across an article which is very dear to most BE readers hearts. After reading the article I remembered BE still has its expert on the subject of the article and that there was a thread on it.

I went to the search function and saw that there were several threads over the years on the said subject. I clicked on it to see if I could add more useful information to the thread but it was CLOSED.

I thought WTF who decides to close a thread on subject matter that is more important than National Security or who won the latest DWTS or GBBO.
Was this a unilateral decision to close the thread or was there a special BE moderators meeting and a vote to close the thread. If there was a vote then Im fine with that but an individual deciding to close the thread on their own then this smacks of almost 1930s Germany style of rule and Im not happy about it.

This is the thread that was closed

This is the new article with some new information relevant to the closed thread
Britain is divided by our love of BISCUITS with Londoners' tastes being posh | Daily Mail Online

BTW this article is spot on as it states this
The chocolate digestive was voted the top elevenses snack in Lancashire

Sorry to get in the way of a good anti-mod rant, but it's actually the forum that decides, as threads are closed automatically when they're more than a year old.

I can reopen it if you really want to add to it, although obviously there will need to be payment in large quantities of good biscuits.

 I can accept your explanation but to be fair I did ask as opposed to being totally anti-mod;)
Also Im not sure what would constitute a good biscuit especially if referring to Canadian manufactured biscuits.
This thread will do and any BE reader will have at least the opportunity to have read only privileges to the closed thread.

Popeyes Chicken gives you a biscuit with some meals, though why you'd want on ewith your chicken and fries is beyond me.

What about those who ask you do you want gravy on your biscuit?

As you are probably aware, a biscuit in this context is more like a plain scone. I lived for a while in the south and good made from scratch biscuits smothered in sausage gravy are an absolute delight. But thank you for bringing this topic up this morning as all I've had for breakfast is some sliced apple and something that looks and smells like an owl pellet. :frown:

Isn't there anywhere on this earth where we can speak without anyone using unsavoury language or even unsavoury abbreviations....come on now Lancashire...WTF really means We Thought Finally...right !!!!!!!!!! and then later, wouldn't saying you were 'really mad' or 'disappointed' say the same thing as the word you used. It's much easier on the eyes and ears. No I'm not the word and abbreviation police, but I'd like to be on forums where things are respectful...I mean, why would you assume we all like, or that we don't mind, or accept that it's OK for you to say things in that way--we're not all on the same page as far as accepting ugly language...so, for me, just keep that prose to yourself or use it with people you know, better yet, don't use it at all. I know, you'll tell me not to read this thread...and you'd be right, but at least it gives you food for thought.

In olden days when I was young we used to have gravy on a slice of pastry called a Ned cake. Very nice it was too.

Not really, although it did occur it might look that way.

I saw the article and thought I'd post it in that biscuit thread that wasn't titled as a biscuit thread but had become one.

:eek:I must confess to being "the kind of sociopath who...actively gravitates towards the malted milk." Sure, it doesn't have the razzmatazz of a bourbon, custard cream, chocolate digestive or mint viscount, but I consider it to be the ultimate tea-dunking biscuit. Unlike digestives, hobnobs etc, it fits perfectly into a cup or mug and you can dunk it all the way to the tips of your fingernails without fear that it will disintegrate. And who wants to leave trails of chocolate or overly-sugary crumbs and other biscuit-related paraphernalia in their carefully brewed Ceylon or Darjeeling?

I certainly wouldn't opt for a Malted Milk for anything other than dunking in tea, but it is the only biscuit that I bring back from England whenever I visit; from Waitrose no less. And I've never even been to Leicester.

Just about the only biscuit I will dunk. Maybe that suggests it 'needs' something extra whereas the others I don't dunk do not, but I think it's more to do with other biscuits spoiling the beverage once it's been contaminated.

Perhaps I should put a few Bourbons into a bowl and pour tea or coffee onto them?

Rich Tea is nice buttered and then squeezed up against another so the butter oozes out through the holes.

Exactly.

I got into trouble from a packet of malted milk once. Back in the 60s I nipped out to the milkman as he was doing his rounds and asked for a packet with it to be added to the bill. :sneaky:

Lincoln biscuits are nice too.

That is a brilliant article. I was chortling over my desk at the hummus dilemma of the average Waitrose shopper. But I think it's important to note the survey is actually a mash-up of sales data, market analysis, and customer surveys - at least in part it was asking questions on the biscuit dunking habits of Britain, so the Bristolians aren't so far removed from good sense: a Rich Tea does hold its shape well in tea, while I can't imagine dunking a kit kat, as you'd be left with a chocolatey sludge at the bottom of your cup of tea.

Still no excuse for a Nice, though. That's just a waste of biscuit-ness.

The journalist concludes with a plea to give due consideration to jaffa cakes. But they're not biscuits at all, are they? [ducks and runs for cover]

I saw a Club biscuit. It looked like an orange one which seems to be the only kind available here. I like Mint ones.

As long as we can all agree that Jaffa Cakes (and Wagon Wheels) are much smaller than they used to be all is good.

Wagon wheels used to be the size of a small plate.

I don't believe Jaffa Cakes are any smaller than they were in the 1980's. They were never very big. .... I doubt anyone here has shifted more Jaffa Cakes than me - I used to work for United Biscuits and used to load and unload trucks of them. On occasion they would send an ar-tic to the warehouse where I worked that contained 24 double stacked pallets, each about 8ft high, of McVities Jaffa Cakes, or IIRC, 5,760 cases of them. ...... More often the pallets were mixed with pallets of other McVities and Crawford's biscuits.
