I was cycling around with my pals when I heard on the radio, with great solemnity,"The King is dead"...oh no wait...that was Elvis

I was in school in the old two room schoolhouse in our town when a student from the new highschool next to us came and called the teacher to the door and whispered in her ear. Visibly shaken, she turned on the radio at the back of the room and we heard the news. She sent us all home for the rest of the day. Two days later I was at home watching tv and saw Jack Ruby shoot Oswald on live television, probably won't forget it

was not alive
will not be revealing my age (mainly because I forget and have to do the mental arithmetic to figure it out)

Other than Vietnam news reports on TV my first big news event that I remember was probably the Aberfan disaster.

[QUOTE=BristolUK;11002923]I was 6 and I was probably blissfully unaware, although I know I watched Doctor Who.

wasn't alive for that one either but even just reading about it makes my blood run cold

Not yet born. My parents don't recall it either, they were only 4 and 5 at the time.

Obviously those over 50 might remember this, and unless someone looks "older" than their age, then what is there to fret about when it comes to age
This incident happened less than a decade before I was born, so didn't witness it, but have read and seen all the stories of what people thought happened / who did it
Yes...I am in my 40s, but it's a full gone conclusion that good genes and healthy lifestyle, as well as a positive attitude and outlook on life (as opposed to being a miserable sod with low self esteem) has been good to me.

I’d had taken a job as a milkman, I remember thinking I’m a sitting duck in this float.

I was born the last day of August 1964 and was apparently over a week late....maybe my folks were tired of the around the clock Kennedy TV news....
