Where do I stand with this
 

We move towards the end of Feb to Burlington ON and we are really looking forward to it.

I am a serving cop in the Met Police UK with 10 years in.

I had been making some enquiries in to police in Canada and in the end decided to go for Peel I sent a feeler email and got a great response asking me when I could get for an interview.

I went out in October they had arranged the interview specially (another good sign) and at the end of the three or so days it took said that they would hire me, verbally!

All was going well until I got a call on Saturday saying that (unofficially) Peel is now taking no recruits with prior experience foreign or domestic!!!! As they had had a couple of people recently who had caused the management nothing but trouble.

My recruiter who is a great guy did say that he went and argued my and another foreign guys case but they wouldn't change their decision.

I'm going to call today and fight my corner, this may be fruitless but worth a go I think, as they have invested a certain amount of cash in to me already with the psychologist and other bits and bobs.

Ultimately there are a lot of Police forces in the area and I'm not limited to Policing, I've just spent a lot of time and money on this one.

Any views??

My family are going over as a PRs.

I'd say fight your corner, under the argument that you're already in the middle of the recruitment process and won't give any hassle, but if it comes down to it, be prepared to cut your losses and go elsewhere.

you have a PR visa? Then you can go anywhere.

What are you going to do, take a gun to their heads and force them to employ you?

If it's a policy decision then you are likely to get nowhere and, if you do, you will be known as the person who kicked up a stink to get in - not the greatest way to win friends and influence people.

Personally, I wouldn't want to work for such an organisation anyway - best look elsewhere, me thinks.

Sounds like the writing is on the wall my friend. I suggest you cut your losses and with a little good fortune you may well look back in a few years time and realise you had a lucky escape. I did 28 years as a plod in the UK before moving here to Canada and had I my time over again would have chosen a different career....hind sight is a great thing. PR has presented you with a great 'career break' so to speak and an opportunity has been provided to change horses so to speak, career wise....

As has been mentioned, you have PR...and the world is your oyster...best of luck in whatever road you choose....:thumbsup:

Have you taken and passed the OACP? This, unfortunately is a necessity if you want to police in Ontario. Without it any police force in ONtario are not allowed to hire you.

I've done all of their testing and passed even seen the psychologist and that was normal. The only reason I've been given after being told I would be hired is that some others who have policing experience have let them down and caused hassle for the management so we all get canned!

This is my problem because I was assured I had a job. Don't get me wrong with my resume I will get work, I have been on special units for some time have a degree in business and have some sort after skills, my problem is that I have done nothing wrong to be treated this way and dare I say am being discriminated against because I am a copper wanting to remain a copper.

Hey ho their loss but I will be having a rant at some senior manager at Peel may throw in the policing altogether and be a normal person for a change!! That would be different.

I would keep all communication as polite and bland as possible ! Adding even the slightest hint of 'rant' to the conversation will only go towards reinforcing their idea that 'these foreign recruits' are nothing but trouble ! ;)
