There's a town in Texas called Humble - pronounced Umble. Honestly!

Re: where did the h go from in erb
English is built from all sorts of diverse influences, some of which mean a change in pronunciation from one group of speakers to the next and an absolute morass of internal inconsistencies.
Spend an honest hour in an historic hotel, eating herbs and haricots with the horrific heir to the vehicle inheritance. Which of those Hs is pronounced, and how many pronounced differently in different countries? Urban Garlic seems a very small thing to get upset about. |

When you look at Paris Hilton do you say "aww" or . . . ? Of course you are going to enunciate to make the meaning clear.

Where's the 'j' in Parmesan?
Canadians can't say Croissant either. Even the French ones. ...or Quesnel. |
